Hello everyone, I am looking for some suggestion for my teenage daughter.
She suffers from depression and doesn't like talking therapy.
Does anyone know of any...

Another option could be to explore hypnosis. Anything is worth trying even once. http://www.mindfulhypnosis.co.nz

Hi Sandra Faustl, ich kann euch eine tolle deutsche Therapeutin empfehlen. Sie macht auch Familienaufstellung. Also keine Gespräche, wenn deine Tochter das nicht möchte. Guck mal hier: http://www.family-constellations.co.nz
Campbell T. replied:
Hi I'm a psychologist working locally I usually focus on athletes and high pressure performers so might not be the right person. I'd really recommend mindfulness practices especially Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy or the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course (e.g. http://mindfulpsychology.co.nz/mindfulness/mbct/ ). The emphasis in these courses is on doing and being: practice and action rather than just talking...and you can be confident that's it is a proven method that you can rely on for your daughter. Also the practitioners are likely trained in understanding the stuff that can go along with depression when you're a teenager so it's one of the most likely things to work for relapse prevention. Wishing you and your daughter well. Campbell

0800 Whats up (0800 942 87 87) are all trained counsellors accessible most hours (12 to 11) and young people can also use webchat which is often less intimidating for them. There is an option to have a regular counsellor which means they can build trust. All child centred so focussed around what works for them. Its also free :-) http://www.whatsup.co.nz/

Oh my goodness I have read all recommendations and I understand will Be completely overwhelming but I would like to throw another in the mix - Fleur Elizabeth Grant she works with anxiety children and I have recommended a client to her whose child had great results! She is a therapist, piano teacher and also an amazing artist! I think the mix could work well with what your child needs

Raeburn House would be a great point of contact - they run a lot of groups (hopefully there would be one suited to your daughters needs) and also created & maintain the Directory of Support Services so would also be a good point for advice re available services suited to your daughter: http://www.raeburnhouse.org.nz/

Have you tried NLP? There is a little bit of talking but it's mostly visualisation work at a sub conscious level. It is very effective and I would highly recommend Kushla Rolls at www.therapythatworks.co.nz
Can anyone recommend a good counselor or therapist in Wellington? I’m a 32 year old female and looking for support to talk through some regular life...

[Talking works](https://www.talkingworks.co.nz/) is decent register of counsellors in NZ :) Good luck, and all the best. Edit: [Here's a recent post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellington/comments/g6 a6 la/would_anyone_be_able_to_recommend_me_a/) in which others provided some great resources too.

Anja Striepke. Louise Morton. Both lovely people who actually help you develop tools to improve situations yourself. Proactive, kind and empathetic. I've heard very good things about Rob Deerheart and Suzanna Langendam too, but haven't seen them myself. They're all listed on Talking Works, and I think a lot of therapists are working via Zoom at the moment, good luck with your mission!

Try calling 1737 as often as you want (free of course). They can use their expertise to recommend someone specific to your struggles if you prefer to meet in-person. [https://1737.org.nz/](https://1737.org.nz/)

I went to see Cherilyn through EAP and she was really good to talk through a lot of anxieties I had in my life including family, work and grief at a similar age to you https://www.talkingworks.co.nz/dir/Cherilyn+Clayton.html Only thing I’d say if unsafe earthquake prone buildings make you anxious, do not go to appointments in Change House.

Bring her to a karate class. Karate/Martial Arts training has many benefits for children. • Self Defence/Fitness/Concentration/Coordination/Self Discipline. Training will help act as an outlet for her stress. We have many kids with anger issues who find that martial arts training is of great benefit. Kids need an outlet too for their stress..... I've many classes all over the Gold Coast. Check out www.gkrkarate.com for some more info Or give me a call on 0427484507 Regards Dave

Good counsellors/therapists in Wellington Hey everyone,
Not super sure how to ask this, but does anyone have any recommendations of good therapists/counsellors in...
fuzzy-beer replied:
Have a look at this site [Talking Works](https://www.talkingworks.co.nz). I can't comment on the cost though but they're usually pretty upfront about that sort of thing.
petoburn replied:
Dianne Hendey is great, I’ve recommended a few friends to her too and we all like her. $100 a session self-funded in the CBD. http://hendey.co.nz/ Does your workplace have EAP? You can often get free sessions that way.
MACFRYYY replied:
What is not expensive? I pay $125 per session for a good psychotherapist I can reccomend in the CBD
MrOnionCola replied:
I’d start with seeing your doctor as I believe there’s a scheme where under certain conditions you can get a few initial sessions with a counsellor for free. (Not sure how it works, just know I wasn’t asked to cough up.) This is useful for developing a rapport and finding someone you can be comfortable with and really open up around.
DadLoCo replied:
Have you considered going to a church Pastor? It won't cost you anything and they deal with the worst of humanity every day. Gary Colville at Hosanna Porirua is very good. EDIT: by worst of humanity I mean people who are deliberately evil. I wasn't referring to people who are seeking help like yourself! Sorry just realised how that sounded....

I'm struggling a bit at the moment and would like to check in with a therapist for some sessions. Unfortunately...
Last time I used talkingworks.co.nz I noticed there were some counsellors who offered Skype sessions. I don't have experience with any so can't recommend, and the site is ordered geographically so may be a little difficult to navigate. But it may be somewhere to start looking.... Good luck with your search.
