Hi all!
Has anyone had experience with anesthesia-free dental cleanings? Do they do a good job? With my older pug, I worry about using anesthesia but I know he needs...

Westlake Animal Hospital. Nobody else knows Pugs like this! http://www.westlakeanimalhospital.com/

Westlake Animal Hospital can use a lighter sedation method for older pugs. Mine is 13 y.o. and recently we switched to this method. I can't tell you what the name of the drug is, but it's much easier on older dogs and my dog has done really well with it on multiple occasions. I also hate to sedate him but we have to do it for nail trims and dental visits. Good luck!

Has anyone used Westlake Animal Hopsital or other vet for anesthesia free teeth cleaning? My thoughts: My pug is getting older too so I want to save any use of anesthesia for absolutely necessary procedures.
Affordable dog dental cleaning recommendations? Hi guys,
I'm looking to get my dogs' teeth cleaned and after some research we are hoping to get x rays done as well. I...

Thrive!! I specifically go to the Oltorf location. They're fantastic and amazingly priced.

Wish some folks could drop prices in the comments, some of these affordable places told me $800 for a cleaning.

Because it was mentioned in another comment, I love the vets at West Lynn Vet Clinic, but they are far from affordable. They quoted me ~$850 for my small senior dog’s annual dental cleaning + a couple of tooth extractions. I ended up going to Thrive on Oltorf. I had to wait a few weeks because they are so busy but it cost less than $300.

Might not be exactly what you're looking for since they don't do x-rays, but Tomlinson's offers anasthesia-free cleanings for $175. More info can be found here: https://tomlinsons.com/pages/anesthesia-free-teeth-cleaning-for-dogs-cats

When you're calling around, ask if they discount in February for dental month. Some will give 10% off in Feb. Two that I know of (former and current vet for my dog): ATX Animal Clinic (Spicewood Springs & Mesa) and West Lynn Vet clinic in Clarksville.

Dr. Julie House in San Marcos is good and very reasonably priced.

Emancipet has their cleanings at less than $300. I’m not sure how much for any extra extractions. But I’m pretty sure they’re booked up for a few months. 512-587-7729 I got my dog’s teeth cleaned back in my hometown (Laredo, TX) for $150 no extractions.

Not to be insensitive, but when I was a kid we just pitched the dogs one MilkBone a night and it cleaned their teeth and they never had any cavities or tooth decay and we didnt have to ever take them to the doggy dentist. We could get a box of MilkBones for a fraction of the cost of a vet visit. EDIT: a letter

[Tomlinson's](http://www.tomlinsons.com/anesthesia-free-teeth-cleaning/) does anesthesia free teeth cleaning sometimes in their stores for $165. It looks like they have spots open for their RR store in September. I take my pups to Banfield (inside PetSmart) for their annual cleanings. I can't remember how much it is but it's expensive-ish. But they put them under to do a more thorough cleaning.

If you’re looking for advice, reach out to someone at GADHA

ACC is your only choice in Austin and they have a great program. It’s difficult but you won’t have any problems finding a job. Yes, you can temp and still get pretty good pay ~$40/hr starting out but also a lot of practices only hire part time ~20 to 30 hrs (which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you’re looking for in a career) so you could shop around for work to get the hours/schedule you want
Also something to consider, you may need to take classes for a semester or two to get your prereqs done before even applying and then you may not get in on the first year you apply.
Also... unlike what these other people are saying, don’t ask a dentist for advice on dental hygiene....

Call your dentist and ask them. They love opportunities to help folks into the field. If you don't have a dentist, I can vouch for Brilliant Smiles and 8118 Dental Professionals.

I go to Western Trails Dental. I know they are always looking for hygienists. As someone said just ask your dentist’s office for advice.
