Teresa, if you go to any of the glasses places you see around BTS area, usually they give you free eye exams but by trained specialist, not by optometrist. My husband goes to "Siam Eye Clinic" in Siam Square in the same block as Hard Rock Cafe. We pay for the exam..... but get the best fitted special lenses (for glasses) and contact lenses...... and good service too. My husband returned a pair of glasses he bought about 2-3 years ago for repair, they couldn't do it as the model has already been retired so they gave him a new frame and polish his old lenses to fit in the new frame... not cheap though. Hope this helps.

Gavin. For your issue, your best bet is to go to a hospital. If you are in a lot of pain, go to ER right now but if the issue can wait till tomorrow, usually after 8AM, there are full time optometrists (specialists) in most hospitals like Bangkok, BNH, Samitivej... but these are pricey....Other option is the specialized eye hospital Rutnin on Asok....or some other less expensive alternatives, Thai Nakarin in Bangna, Theptarin on Rama IV, Nakornthon in Rama II.. all have well equipped eye centers and for your purpose will provide just as good care but probably at 1/3 the cost. I hope this helps.

Gavin, I can recommend Dr Anuchit at Rutnin Eye Hospital on Asoke. From memory he' s only there at the weekends though.

Teresa... Idk about getting lenses without frame.. but you can get the exam without either for sure. Might want to call them first. 022529474,022519576. They are open from 11AM on.. The optometrist we saw is Dr. Tuernjai (Tuern-jai), a lady.

Optometrists, need new specs. First time in Thailand. Can anyone recommend a reliable provider? Progressive lens, frames, and an eye examination. Nothing too flash.
I need to get my eyes retested and new glasses fitted. Does anyone know of a good but reasonably priced optometrist? Near to Thonglor would be preferable. Thanks :-)
