I recommend getting a quote from Terry at Bailey-McLean Windows in Kitchener 519-745-2217. We've had work done by them and we are in the process of doing some more with them. They install [Strassburger](http://www.strassburger.net/) windows exclusively so it depends if you like the design. We have't had any problems with our vinyl replacements. I do NOT recommend going with Windows To ADoor. They butchered the door replacement job on two of our doors. Also, this thread proves that "the eyes are the windows to the soul." Or something.

We had many of our home's windows replaced in the summer of 2012. The house is from 1945, the windows hadn't been replaced since 1973. We shopped around to several of the 'mid-range' (from what I could tell; you may disagree) companies. We ended up going with [Abelson](http://www.abelsonwindows.com/). For eight windows (including one large bay window, one bathroom window with privacy glass, double hung where appropriate, etc.) the total cost (including tax and labour, etc.) was in the $5000 range (again, in 2012).
Pre- and post-sales support was flawless. Installation was over two days and was as low impact as something like that is (they cleaned up after themselves, etc.).
Having had the windows for two years now, they are solid, easy to use, hold a seal, and attractive (as much as a window can be I suppose).

We got a few quotes in 2007. Our first quote was Centennial, and we figured we couldn't afford to replace ANY windows. The rep tried to get us to sign on the spot and when we said no offered us 30% off. Still no! After a few other quotes, we ended up going with Beingessner Home Exteriors, and replaced a few windows per year. In addition to being most reasonably priced for what we felt was a quality product, they were not pushy in any way. They will email a quote, and there are no surprise add-ons. Once the installation was done, they sent us an invoice, and didn't request or expect payment until we were happy with the installation, and any issues rectified by the manufacturer.

Can't help with the windows since I only just moved into the area but can you share who the optometrist is? Thanks!

If you haven't already decided on a company, my father has a window and door business with excellent pricing. [http://www.ultimate-home-improvements.com/](http://www.ultimate-home-improvements.com/)
