Would any of you be willing to write a review of the healthcare provider you recommended on RunningFavorites.com/healthcare? I'm trying to accumulate reviews of healthcare providers who are great with runners in the Portland area as a resource to our running community. As a bonus, if you write three review throughout the site (of healthcare providers, running groups, races, shoes, etc.), you'll earn an entry into a 2016 Hood to Coast race series race. If you have questions about using the site, just let me know!

4,500 for both eyes. Best money I ever spent in my life. Was life changing. I had an astigmatism that made it hard for me to see at a distance, focus, read, and also gave me headaches most days. They scheduled me in 1 week after my free consultation. Changed my life. I felt like a hawk with crazy super power vision-really it was just correct for the first time in my life. I could better than contact ever helped me. Take out a loan if you need to. It’s incredible. The actual procedure took about 8 seconds on each eye. The whole thing took about an hour with prep etc.

I already did a bit of research before I got my surgery done. I originally went in for Lasik. But ended up with PRK. The only two places worth a damn in Portland is Casey Eye Institute (OHSU) and Eye Health Northwest. I am now seeing almost 20/10 vision with both eyes. PRK was recommended by my ophthalmologist because of my more active life style and my vision astigmatism in my right eye was really minor.

Go to Teplick LASIK. Dr Teplick helped develop the original LASIK process and he is here in Portland. He did my eyes and is the best. The only place the Trailblazers will send there players for eye care. http://www.oregonlaser.com/

How much does doctor quality count when they're just there to calm you down & hit "go" on a machine?
Flying_Caveman replied:
No joke they had a groupon for Dr. Teplick. Make sure to see if you can find it. Had it done in 2013, still 20/15 and it was $2800. Seemed sketchy but after reading all the reviews couldn’t go wrong.

Be sure to use intralase Lasik (bladeless). It's more expensive, but your eyeball will heal better.

My wife and I both got LASIK done at LASIK Plus down at Bridgeport Village about 2 months ago. The staff and doctors there were amazing. Personable, funny, kind, etc. It wasn't cheap, but both my wife and I are now seeing 20/15 without glasses or contacts. And they have a guarantee that if you need more corrections in the future, they will do them for free. I highly recommend them. And they did use the bladeless procedure u/Gjallarhorn_Lost mentioned. If you are interested in more info, PM me.

I had my Lasik done by Dr Mousa in Orange county CA. Sure, that requires a flight. But where else can you get both eyes done for $1500? I had it done three years ago and it's held up well. Other doctors passed on me because of my astigmatism but Dr Mousa managed to get me to 20/15. I wish I'd done it 20 years ago. On the downside: 1) I'm way more photosensitive now 2) I tend to get eye infections once or twice a year 3) sooner or later I'm going to need a pair of glasses for reading. But it's way better than where I was before, needing glasses for everything.

Casey eye institute, OHSU. They give you a Valium to keep you calm. I found out the hard way Valium doesn't really work on me. Being completely lucid during the whole thing, the best way I can describe it is to combine every single 70's sci-fi trippy special effect and have it flash before your eyes. (pun intended) oh and the burny smell... Would do it again in a heartbeat. Fuck contacts.

I went to a place off 205 in Vancouver. But it was 12 years ago so I don't remember their name. At the time they explained there were three lasers. Depending on what my eyes were like would depend on which laser. They said most people don't qualify for the nadik laser, which is the oldest and cheapest technology that you see advertised. At that time, that laser was $295 per eye. I needed the middle laser, which was $695 an eye. I want to say the most expensive laser was $1195 an eye, but I could be wrong about that. I also needed to buy a prescription from Walgreens which was $40-60, I forget the exact price.
The day of the surgery, they did not put me under. They gave me two stress balls to squeeze. I was super scared and squeezed them really hard. I didn't feel a thing but it was so scary having the doctor work in my eyes like that. They told me In the first consultation that I could watch other people get surgeries (there was a window and a watching room), but I didn't do that and I probably should have to make myself feel better. Nobody was there watching me except my wife.
I was down for the rest of the day. I wasn't able to take a shower for a week (or two?), I was to take a bath without submerging my head. I wasn't allowed to submerge my head underwater for a month.
I was able to see after the surgery, but it looked like the kinda vision you have when you are underwater. Also, the normal sun that day seemed super bright to me. They gave me a pair of sunglasses. The vision was not good enough to drive. I needed to have my wife drive me home after the surgery.
For about six months after if i would see halos when I first shut my eye (never when my eyes were opened). They were not that big a deal.
I was somebody who could not see the expression on your face if you were three feet away (really bad eyesight) to having 20/20. I have had 20/20 ever since. It was the best thing I have ever done and I would strongly recommend it.
What makes a good candidate for the surgery, they told me, is how thick your cornea is. Mine was really thick so I made a great candidate.
