My partner and I have recently moved to Shefford. We would appreciate any suggestions for a whole list of stuff: where is best to eat, drink, shop... also need...
Deborah G. replied:
The Thai restaurant in what was formerly the White Swan pub on the river is excellent. My brother-in-law is a chef and on a recent visit, he enjoyed the whole experience. Lovely atmosphere & haven't ever had a bad meal there. Manager doesn't respond particularly well to complaints or criticism but I guess he doesn't have to deal with it too often http://bangkoklounge.com/shefford/
Deborah G. replied:
Just a couple of miles away at the Green Man in Clophill is an excellent fine dining Italian restaurant. I normally think of Italian as Pizza and Pasta but this is very different. We visited recently as a party of four. We all ordered something different for each course and not one of us were disappointed. The most used exclamation was mmmmmm . http://greenmanrestaurant.co.uk/
Deborah G. replied:
Slightly further afield but still within 5 miles is the http://www.whitehartflitton.co.uk/. Friendly hosts, excellent food and service
Deborah G. replied:
If you are looking for a special occasion restaurant, consider http://www.sthelenarestaurant.co.uk/ There is a set price menu with extra charges for more expensive items. Food, service and ambiance are excellent and if you are so inclined you can order a £2000 bottle of port. It looks and feels amazing over the Christmas period. You will need to book but you can ask to be put on the cancellation list and they will contact you if space becomes available.
Deborah G. replied:
A previously derelict pub in Maulden has recently been renovated and reopened and although I haven't been, I have heard very good reports from discerning friends of http://thegeorgemaulden.com/#welcome
Deborah G. replied:
Slightly further afield is Ampthill. A gorgeous market town with a Waitrose http://www.waitrose.com/bf_home/bf/722.html and many individual and quirky shops. Restaurants with excellent reputations include http://www.princeofwales-ampthill.com/ http://www.thewhitehartampthill.co.uk/ http://www.fajitasrestaurant.com/
So today is the day we officially are living in Biggleswade! Please can you provide general recommendations - places to eat, drink, visit, shop, the best doctors etc -...
Lisa F. replied:
Welcome to biggy. Georges hall is very nice as is Biggleswade tandoori. Takeaway Chinese jumbo, pundit in Hitchin street. Shopping we have asda, aldi and sainsbury's but tesco is in Baldock and morrisons in letchworth.
Joel D. replied:
Best food in Biggleswade, by a country mile, is The Croft Kitchen
Bec L. replied:
Welcome! Best places in town for food are the Stratton House Hotel, Georges Hall, Croft Kitchen (expensive but worth it!) & Maltings Wine bar. The new inn & pheasant are good if you like real ales. Out of town in some lovely villages for food & drink you've got the Black Horse at Ireland, Crown at Henlow and also Northill. The Bangkok Lounge a Shefford does great Thai
Dianne W. replied:
Best Real Ale pub just outside Biggleswade is The March Hare Dunton
Ellen K. replied:
For food: The John o gaunt in Sutton is amazing! http://www.johnogauntsutton.co.uk/. In Biggleswade definitely http://www.georges-hall.co.uk/ or the Croft kitchen.
Ellen K. replied:
Also check out moggerhanger park for country walks and really nice cafe. http://www.moggerhangerpark.com/. Or Danish camp once it warms up so you can sit by the river and have nice lunch or hire a boat http://www.danishcamp.co.uk/index.html
Collette T. replied:
If you fancy a pamper I run Collette's Beauty in Biggleswade www.facebook.com/collettesbeautyroom :)
Diane E. replied:
There's also Aiden Jones gym in Church Street opposite the Lounge (which I also recommend).
Nikki S. replied:
Welcome to Biggs, there is a gym called Aiden Jones fitness http://www.aidenjones.co.uk/ Which is conviently located opposite the lounge, lovely atmosphere, food and drinks! Cocktail and gym anyone!!! Sandy (next village) also has a nice Chinese - China express and a Tesco. Shefford also has a lovely Thai restaurant.
Elizabeth S. replied:
Ooooh Aiden Jones gym I missed that one sounds great x
Richard J. replied:
Welcome to Biggleswade, best places are always subjective, but here goes: Pub either The New Inn or the Golden Pheasant are both thriving, friendly and serve good beer. Doctor: we have been with the Ivel Medical centre for years and have always been treated well, they are moving to a new base later in the year, Shopping: yyou have a good range including Aldi, Iceland and Asda in the town centre, Sainsbury's on yhe skirts by a1 and Tesco just outside Sandy, plus a range of clothes stores in town supplemented by those on the retail park on the entry to Biggleswade and soon to be joined by an M&S and Next. DIY bits and pieces Homebase plus a couple of builders merchants. So all in all a reasonable choice.
Hi Can anyone suggest a good private dentist that can do an extraction and immediate denture? Lost confidence in NHS and it's my four front teeth so need a bit more...

hi am moving to the area soon can anybody recommend a doctors surgery and dentist thank you
Clive W. replied:
I think most people in Riseley would use the doctor's surgery in Sharnbrook (01234 781392) but there is also one in Kimbolton, which my partner uses and rates pretty highly.
Steve E. replied:
We find Kimbolton Medical Centre the better doctor's surgery as it is a friendly accessible practice with access to GP's immediately. HIGHLY recommended and "Yes" we have tried Sharnbrook surgery with mixed results. We use the supermarket dentist at Tesco's Goldington Road, our dentist Hem is excellent.
Harri S. replied:
I agree that you should try Kimbolten before Sharnbrook surgery. We use the dentist on Riverfield Drive in Bedford which are great.
Tony P. replied:
Try Bob Pentlow for dentistry, Pretty rudimentary anaesthesia though !
Nicky J. replied:
We have tried the new dentist inside Tesco,,couldn't see Hem...We recommend the other dentist five minutes awayhttp://www.bedforddentalpractice.com/
Larissa N. replied:
Kimbolton surgery is excellent. We use High Street dentists in Bedford next to Macdonalds and have found them to be very good as well.
Can anyone recommend a dentist who is good with children? My grandchildren are going to need orthodontic treatment and I want a sympathetic dentist!
Mel S. replied:
Andrew Robertson at Edward Byrne Practise on De Parys Ave...marvellous man and very empathetic with both adults and the little people. Highly recommend him!
Samanta L. replied:
My dentist on Howard Street. Dr Paul Vinod. He is amazing
Hi, can anyone recommend a dentist that accepts NHS
Tracey R. replied:
https://www.facebook.com/648312691904211Priory Dental Practice on Bromham Road opposite the old girls school. Mr Macgregor doesn't do unnecessary work just to be able to charge (I guess unless you wanted to) - if your teeth are healthy they don't necessarily need to be sparkling white! Been going for years & all good here.
Steve M. replied:
I see that your listed Mk but if you're prepared to go into Bedford town centre then try this place. Bedford House Dental Practice 98 High St, Bedford MK40 1NN
Can anyone recommend a good dentist in Bedford? My last one tried to get me to pay for very expensive treatment that I didn't need at all, as it turned out. Thank you
Gordon E. replied:
