The only small animal vet I can think of is The Center for Bird and Exotic Animals in Bothell. They have a vet on call 24 hours. We had a guinea pig who went downhill fast. I called them and the vet met us there within an hour. She let us keep our hands on Izzy as she was put to sleep. The vet gave her gas anesthesia before for her comfort. They made us a pawprint and treated us with kindness and respect. Since then we have used them for years as our small animal vet. The drive from Marysville has been worth it every time. From checkups and routine stuff, to pneumonia, bladder stones and end of life care; they really are an amazing group. I wish peace for both you and your bunny <3

Natalia Tinida Wilson, I have insurance for both my cats through Healthy Paws! While it doesn't cover wellness visits (like yearly shots), it is good in case of emergency. I was quoted over $2000 when my cat was sick last year and I took her to Blue Pearl downtown. Had I had insurance, 90% of that would have been reimbursable. But, for $23 a month per cat for insurance, it seemed worthwhile in case of emergency :) There are different insurance companies for pets, but I have only used Healthy Paws, and they have been phenomenal with their customer service: http://www.healthypawspetinsurance.com/

Surviving family members can get available military records for deceased. There is no charge, and they responded faster than I expected. Unfortunately, a fire in the St Louis records center some years ago destroyed a lot of WWII and Korean era records. Surprisingly, ancestry.com was a great source of records for my dad's WWII Naval service. I was able to get a copy of my dad's ship's roster - and I have talked to an officer my dad served under. Give me a call! The following might help. https://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/public/general-public.html

I'm so sorry for your loss. We received similar sympathy cards from Seattle Vet Specialists (who were treating our boy dog when he passed) and our regular vet (Hollywood Hill Animal Hospital) but the most surprisng response was when I emailed King County to let them know that we had lost our boy so we would not be renewing his pet license (I didn't want to receive the notification email or card, it was so hard to lose him.) They sent the most gracious email and included resources for grieving (support groups, therapists, etc.) and pet memorialization. Not exactly the response I expected from a government office! For a mechanic, I highly recommend [Kirkland Autoworks](https://www.yelp.com/biz/kirkland-autoworks-kirkland). Relatively cheap, great service, and there's never any pressure. Regarding the vet, I *used* to take my Shiba to Brookfield in Redmond, but after being told "my dog is too aggressive without medication", I didn't feel comfortable drugging him for just a general check-up every time he had to go + he was never aggressive at the vet, just stressed. Now, I take him to VCA (there's several in the area, [the one in Redmond is good](https://www.yelp.com/biz/vca-redmond-animal-hospital-redmond)) and they've been wonderful. I told them the story of how he "needed" medication every time he had to go see the vet... The doctor was confused and stunned by that, especially considering how my Shiba isn't nearly as bad as Brookfield described him to be.

I have PC Financial and pay $37 per dog. I have used it numerous times on Hunter, there is a yearly deductible of $100 if you need to make a claim. I do believe that will change to $200 once he turns 6 though. It's a great thing to have, we had it on both of our cats as well but canceled it about two years ago, then last year Oreo got really sick and we had to get a speciality surgeon flown in from out of province and that ran us over $8000 .

I have "www.HealthyPawspetInsurance.com" (Do not just type in Healthy Paws or it comes up with another website ) for my Remi. There is 3 plans to choose from, we got the one in the middle. Have only used it a couple of times and they response by e-mail within 24 hours of receiving your claim letting you know they received it and a reimbursement check comes in the mail within a few days. I like that this insurance has a unlimited lifetime benefits. So thankful to have insurance for piece of mind. Hope this helps.

je_taime replied:
>He warned me that it can also happen I the other leg and I really can't afford to cough up another 3400 dollars out of pocket again. But the insurance doesn't pay it up front; it works on reimbursement, so you'd have to find a way to pay the vet anyway.

Sixpupsup replied:
Make sure to double check that the other side would be covered. I can't remember the details, but I know there are exclusions on something like "bilateral" conditions?? Something that if it happens on one side in is not unusual for it to happen on the other side. Some plans I looked into covered, some excluded. Don't know if that would apply to what you are talking about.
Ashtok replied:
As someone already stated, you get it back as a reimbursement instead of just paying for it up front. But, I can tell you my pup has [Healthy Paws](http://www.healthypawspetinsurance.com/) because it seemed to be the most no hassle and cover the most thing. I took a look and their exclusions for bi-lateral are: "Pre-existing cruciate ligament problems to one leg as respects the cost of future treatment for problems of the other leg. This is our only bi-lateral exclusion." I'm not sure just from looking at that what it would include so I would probably do a little more digging before signing on if the other leg is the main thing you're worried about covering.
petplan replied:
The recommendations shared so far have all been solid. Most pet insurers have some sort of bilateral exclusion in place for the other knee if one becomes injured. Here's the direct language from our policy for comparison [which you can read here in full](http://www.gopetplan.com/terms-and-conditions-explained):
If your pet has received treatment for a cruciate or soft tissue
injury to one knee during the first six (6) months of the policy
(where no certification of knee health has been provided as
described in Section V.g.) then the other knee is automatically
excluded from coverage for a period of twelve (12) months from
the date of last treatment to the affected knee.
i. If your pet has received treatment for a cruciate or soft tissue
injury to one knee prior to policy inception then the other knee is
automatically excluded from coverage for the longer period of
i. twelve (12) months from the date of last treatment to the
affected knee
ii. the first six (6) months that the policy is in effect, as per
Section V.g.
j. If your pet has shown clinical signs of a cruciate or soft tissue
injury to one knee prior to the effective date of this policy or
during the first six (6) months of the policy (where no certification
of knee health has been provided as described in Section V.g.)
and appropriate treatment has not been performed, then the
other knee is automatically excluded from coverage. Once
appropriate treatment has been performed, the other leg is
excluded from coverage for a period of twelve (12) months from
the date of last treatment to the affected leg.
TLDR: Since your pup tore her ACL in January, the other knee wouldn't be eligible for coverage until after a waiting period has passed. Note, however, the some insurers won't cover the other knee at all, ever. So you'll have to ask around.

I've been using Harpeth Hills Animal Hospital for puppy shots and check ups since moving, and don't have any real complaints. They cost about what my old Vet in NC cost so I'm going to assume it's somewhere around average. It's best to start up some sort of history with a proper vet, so it's my random guy on the the internet opinion to avoid the value vets. Between the upfront advertised declawing and Banefield vibes they make me a bit wary.

I take my dog to Value Vet for vaccines and flea/heartworm meds. But I took him there for what we thought (and what they mis-diagnosed) as a urinary tract infection. Turned out to be bladder stones. Belleforest Animal Hospital in Bellevue has been great for him. They successfully treated the bladder stones and have been fantastic with other issues. They are professional, knowledgeable, and nice. The folks at Value Vet are very friendly, and while the Techs are usually the same, it seems like a different Vet every time I go in there. Great for minor/regular things, but I wouldn't recommend them for a sick/injured animal.

Hillsboro Animal Hospital has been top dog (pun totally intended) for both my dog and cat. They even sent us complimentary pet "ID cards" after our first visit, with all the vital information on it. They're in Hillsboro, so they can be a bit pricy, but the customer service has been excellent and they treat my pets like family. And they have a convenient kennel right behind their complex, so you can do a one-stop shop if you might need to kennel them for a time.
