One of my 2nd grade private violin students is switching to cello. He is a bright, musical child who has played violin since preschool, so I would like...

I have always been extremely happy with the violins from Shar Music. I don't know anything about their cellos, but assume that they'd be along the same lines. They have really decent student violins and nice intermediate ones, and they have a really good trade-in/trade-up program, plus their customer service is wonderful. www.sharmusic.com

Cellos2 go.com has relocated, but Ellen there might be able to recommend a NY shop, or help you from a distance.

Try the Potter Violin Company. My daughter and all the cellists in my school have instruments from there. It is a good shop to do business with because the quality is excellent and you can trade any instrument you buy from them back in towards the next instrument up. Start with the rental program if you want to check them out. Call them and ask for Louis. 301 652 7070
