Miranda--we use Guardian Pest Mgt for our annual termite inspection. The owner recently passed away but we were told by his wife that they are going to continue the pest control side of his business. He was a great man and they're a super family and are local. Hope this helps!

Trying to get rid of a German cockroach infestation. Does anybody have any suggestions or exterminator recommendations?
mindshadow replied:
I had one that the exterminator could not get rid of (well, he could but it was going to take like 3-4 visits). Get this:

The first one kills the existing ones (FYI you only actually see about 30% of the infestation). The second one prevents them from reproducing. Over about a month you should see a drastic reduction and eventually get the all-clear on them.
Be very vigilante about cleaning. Also put out the gel as often as (or more) than the instructions say. If that doesn't work then you're doing it wrong. I've helped a few friends with similar situations clean up their houses and it always works. Way cheaper than $90+ per visit for pest control.

I was supposed to be coming over on Friday to play Settlers of Catan with your roommate but I think I'm gonna pass now. I can't have those little terrorists hitching a ride home with me. Maybe it doesn't happen like that but MAYBE IT DOES

Me and my wife were looking to adopt some german cock roaches. But seriously. .. youll have much better luck ordering poison online and reading up on home pest control. make sure you all read up enough up so that you stay safe.
If you have a crawl space you can buy diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it throughout under the house its super cheap and totally non toxic. The mineral content of it eats insects lipid bilayers which makes them dehydrate to death and die.
The poison you should buy a concentrated and then mix it up double or triple strength and a gallon jug spray can and spray it on the outside of your house only. That way you don't have to be around the poison all of the time.
You can get some of the less toxic poison that stops the cockroaches from reproducing but doesn't kill them right away and leave the bait gels for that on the inside of your house. Most of that stuff is available online that ended our infestation.

I had an infestation once and tried everything I could think of. One option finally worked, and that was Boric Acid. It's deadly to cockroaches, but is low in toxicity to people and pets. I sprinkled along where the roaches were and let it sit for about a week or two. Cockroaches succumb to Boric Acid when they crawl over treated areas. The tiny particles of powder adhere to the cockroaches' body, and the material is ingested as the roach preens the powder from its legs and antennae. The cockroaches then travel to the nest where the powder is spread from the inside out, eventually killing the entire infestation. You can get Boric Acid for less than $10

You should get a cat. I can loan you one if you can't find one.

I use to work for cooks doing commercial pest control, German cockroaches are going to take time to kill no matter who does it. Get bait combined with something that prevents reproduction (I used Gentrol) is the best way. Someone can come and fog the house but that's just going to kill the live ones, when the next generation hatches from their egg cases they'll reproduce at an amazing rate. Two to three months is average to eliminate an infestation.

Had those invade my kitchen and bathroom last year, it was a nightmare!! Normally people just use roach/spray, but it doesn't work for this kind. I had to have an exterminator come once a week to spray for two months. They live inside the walls, so it's highly likely that you have a water leak.
