Bloomfield Rec is very affordable. YMCA has a couple of different camps depending on your child's age.

If you are looking for true, all day camps, and not just 9-3, then you can look at the Y's camp at the lake, Steve & Kate and the Education Station has a camp for kids 9 and under. It can be extremely difficult to find day camps that cover a normal work day, without paying a fortune for before and/or aftercare.

If your kid is a skater, Floyd Hall Arena offers reasonably priced full day options (Hockey camp runs 8-5:15). Another full day option. but not cheap is Surf and Turf Adventure Camp. Their junior program (for 8-11 year olds) is now called Keiki explorers. These are day trip camps. The buses leave Montclair before 9 and usually wind up back in the area between 5:30 and 6. Steve & Kate's Camp is just over at Lacordaire Academy (in Montclair). Lots of options for campers to choose from each day, flexible attendance, and lunch provided as a part of the fees. (Full disclosure: I work for them but my son also attends and loves it)
