being that the tattoo is a traditional style and inspired tattoo i would recommend seeking out an artist that specializes in that style and enjoys it. look at portfolios. go in and talk with artists, everyone has a spin on styles and colors and an idea of what would work and not work. first look at their line work,. is it clean and solid is it consistent. second look at the black. is it solid is it clean and goes to lines where supposed to. is the shading smooth . last if getting color also look at saturation and balance. does the artist do a preplan with color pallets etc. also ask to see examples of healed tattoos fresh tattoos can look great but a healed tattoo and finished product is what you will be showing off for the rest of your lifetime. I personally would recommend the guy I got my ink done by, but regardless of what I think or how great an artist someone is, it doesn’t mean that they enjoy the kind of art it appears you want or need. I know Keith at Black Reign Tattoo does great work, and has done four of my five tattoos. It might be something he’d work on, but I’m not 100% certain.

There is one of these posts every other day. Every time every tattooer in Kitsap is mentioned. In my opinion this is not the way to find a quality tattoo artist. Everyone has work online. Google Kitsap tattoo and find the person doing the kind of work you are interested in and go talk to them. Set an appointment and be patient.

Depends on what you want and the style you want it done in. Different artists incorporate different styles in their work. One artist's tattoo of a rose may be completely different than another's. Just as important to consider is that certain artists may be great at things like portraits while others couldn't give you a realistic PORTRAIT tattoo to save their lives. Go online and check out portfolios. Know that you get what you pay for. Don't expect to get an amazing tattoo that you're going to love forever for bottom of the barrel cost. Be willing to pay more than $100 depending on the size, detail and time spent on the tattoo. This will be on your body forever so why should amazing work be cheap? Tip well. Expect to possibly have a long wait to get an appointment. Most artists who are worth it also have a wait to get in. I personally go to Bo McConaghie at Black Dragon Tattoo in Poulsbo. He's an amazing artist who's professional and has integrity and it shows in his work. After going to him for years, I requested a small ladybug tattoo on my hand. He said he wouldn't put it in a place that I couldn't cover because I had no other tattoos that couldn't be covered with clothing. Initially, I was a little disappointed to get it on my wrist instead. I realized later that he was not only doing me a favor but also protecting his reputation by not allowing his work to be put just anywhere and potentially costing him my future business. He cares about his craft and his clients. He's not in it just to make a buck. ANY great artist will not compromise their integrity just to earn a dollar.
