Luke Armstrong at Andrews estate agent was brilliant for us and others we know. He does things unrelated to mortgages. We had our life insurance and others have used him for income protection. Explains things in a really straightforward way and is happy to spend ages with you if need be.

I think if you search in your area you should be able to see their score and read the reviews etc. I suppose you could search the company names, once identified locally, and see what other people are saying. Yes it is the internet and could the comments be fake etc but just spend time looking and try and build a picture of any specific company or companies.

Some banks/building societies offer a financial advisor for use in the bigger branches. Might be worth your while to contact the institution that you hold your current account with and see if they offer it as a free service?
