The outside is overflow. When a drain does not flow properly, the over flow is there to handle the water. Units in the attic are notorious for clogged drain lines. Sometimes drain ties into the downstairs unit as well and drain has to be cleared from below. Most times a shop vac will clear the drain open easily, in the case of a major blockage, you can cut the PVC close to unit, clear it out and put it back together with a 3/4" coupling you can easily pick up at Home Depot or Lowes. Just my opinion....Service Contract is not necessarily a guarantee this will not happen again. Residential contracts are not a necessary expense. Best advice I can suggest....keep your filters changed on a regular basis, check the heat/AC before the temperatures change, clean your drains and flush with bleach or vinegar and only call when you have a problem that you can't repair yourself. Saves you money and also educates you to pay attention to the operation of your HVAC system.
