https://www.bu.edu/card/ You don't have to be a student. Going to see them is the greatest choice I have ever made. Even the people who work the front desk are amazing. Everyone who goes is there to deal with anxiety/depression/ocd or something related. They know how to be discrete and professional. They are on the cutting edge of anxiety treatments. It's also right in Kenmore square.

I didn't know the BU resources were available to non-students... good to know! I found my therapist through psychology today (the website). She's fantastic, but she's in Cambridge. Keep in mind that a good fit is key, so encourage her to keep trying if she doesn't like the first one she sees. When I moved, I saw at least five different people until I found the right one. Edit: Also, I know I'm going to sound like a total snob, but I have always preferred the psyd/phds I've seen over those with other types of degrees. I don't think that should be a deciding factor, but that's just a bit of take away that I've had from my experiences.

There's a practice on Harvard Street in Brookline that's A+! Wherever she goes, though, encourage her to shop around. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach and she'll want to find someone she feels comfortable with and whose approach matches her own mindset. That may take a few tries.

Try looking online (psychologytoday.com, as much as I hate their articles, has a search engine that many therapists are on). She could also call her insurance company for a list of names and then look them each up online. As a psychologist I'm always wanting to give out recommendations on this sub, but unfortunately I can't due to confidentiality (mine). However, it really is mostly a matter of do, so the above methods are the best you can do.

I hear you, Leena Mittal-Schofield. I work with a lot of college students, both in my practice and at Semester Off. I also have 20 or so eating disordered pt's in my practice and collaborate closely with therapists, PCPs, and nutritionists who specialize in ED's. My practice is in Lexington which is fairly close to Tufts. If the student or family wants to contact me as a resource, they're more than welcome to do so: 781-990-8349.
