Hi again. Another recommendation question. What pediatrician is most recommended by TBC? Anyone know how supportive of breastfeeding CHOP Ped. & Adolecent in Paoli, Bryn...
Aliza B. replied:
Dr. Penny Soppas of Drexel Hill Pediatrics is a pediatrician and lactation consultant. She is also the on staff pediatrician for TBC. We've been going to her since my oldest was a newborn and love her.

Brenda Smeal Gibson, when I told my dad when we were looking for in a pediatrician he told me I would never find it - we found it with Dr. Lieberman. She has a solo practice so you don't have to worry about getting a different answer from a nurse etc, she is easy to get in touch with, and if you live in her zip code (in the Fairmount area) she'll even make a house call for sick visits! I agree with you that a big part of it, and it's difficult sometimes, is learning to trust yourself.

I would like to follow this post. I found Dr. Gordon-Klinow from TBC who is also on-call for TBC (Dr. Gordon) but joining the practice I fell in LOVE with Dr. Ross Smith who is just the most amazing pediatrician in the world & never saw any other Dr. in the practice. So last month he retires!!! Now they have 2 practicies 1 in Bryn Mawr another in Wayne and they are combining in Rosemont. I am just so nervous becasuse even though I have been there for 3 years I feel like I am starting over
Brenda G. replied:
Dr. Linda Klinow practiced with Dr. Tim Ryan (he bought Dr. Starkweather's practice) back in the mid '80's . Although she was only there for a short time, i really liked her. She respecte d a mother's opinion, because she was a mother herself... One of the statements she made to me (she was seeing my third child) was" the current school of thinking is ........, but you have 2 already, so use your best judgement. I really respected her for that.
Tatyana R. replied:
We initially went with Dr. Soppas in Drexel Hill and she was great especially with regard to breastfeeding in the beginning. However as my daughter got older I felt really rushed through well appointments, we were in and out in less than ten minutes on average. We swtiched to Society Hill Ped. in Philly about a year and a half ago and love Dr. Hill. She is very supportive of our attachment parenting mentality and really takes time during visits to get to know our daughter's personality.
Jessica P. replied:
I am on Wayne so I am trying to stick to 10 minutes away or less. I was going to 1201 Pediatrics now Pediatrics Plus but they moved from Bryn Mawr to Broomall and now I have to get on 476 or take some confusing back roads every time.
Xandra O. replied:
We started with Dr. Soppas too, but now we go to Dr. Alexis Lieberman in the Fairmount area - so worth it! Today is a perfect example -she's on vacation and I had a non-emergency question and I was able to email her about it and heard back right away. She's vey supportive and accessible. She completely supports me breastfeeding my almost 2 year old, which is really important to me. Her website is www.fairmountpediatrics.com
Brenda G. replied:
unfortunately they don't make pediatricians like they used to. Dr Starkweather was my dr growing up and cared for my 2 oldest children, (yes, my oldest was a birth center baby born in October of 1980). When he was born, I started out with a new, more "modern" pediatrician, 2 visits and I was back to good old doc starkweather.

Drs Flood and Corpus at Steiner Medical in Phoenixville. Dr corpus is my son's ped and I love her. It might be a little far for you but we also travel quite a bit to get to them. Good care you are comfortable with is worth the traveling to me- suffered with BAD ped for 1.5 yrs before finding them.
Sarah B. replied:
UPDATE: We settled on Dr. Nelson of Bryn Mawr Pediatrics and couldn't be happier!
Aliza B. replied:
Dr. Penny Soppas at Drexel Hill Pediatrics is amazing!
Anyone have suggestions for a holistic pediatrician or at least a pediatrician that is open to alternative methods? Looking near Wayne but willing to travel. Thanks
Sheri C. replied:
We loooove Scott Pugh at Gordon Klinow peds in Rosemont. He's very open to most things I've asked or suggested, but not cool at all with anti-vax.
Liz P. replied:
Dr. Wiswe at Collegeville Family Practice! She suggests natural remedies first and is very supportive of breastfeeding.
Does anyone know a pediatrician that does delayed vaccination in the west philly area and accepts Keystone First insurance?
Sarah M. replied:
If you don't mind traveling into Delco, Dr Sonia Jain at Drexel Hill Pediatrics (in Drexel Hill) is AMAZING. Very bf supportive, we do delayed/selective vaccinations, and they take keystone First:-)
Sheri C. replied:
I don't know what the insurance situation is but we use Gordon Klinow in Bryn Mawr. We delay and there was no issue. There are multiple docs there. Some are more ok with delaying than others but all went with it.
Meredith M. replied:
Dr Flood in Phoenixville, i believe, does not do any before the age of 2! We go to Dr Wiswe in Collegeville, that was who was recommended to me at the Birth Center when my daughter was born over 5 years ago. She is a family dr.
Amanda C. replied:
Really? We left Drexel Hill Peds partly because they were so vaccine-pushy. And Dr. Jain tried to force me to give formula to my 10 lb 7 oz newborn who had lost exactly the average % of weight expected in a newborn. Good thing I stood my ground, he came back up from breastmilk only by the next weight check. I found Dr. Penny to be the only one at that practice really knowledgeable about breastfeeding.
