For obligate carnivores (cats) raw is best. If you can't do raw, then grain-free wet food is next best. Buy the best quality food you can afford. Read the labels. Weruva makes a really good wet food, from human grade ingredients, and it doesn't look li ke cat food! My really picky cats love this brand. It does take a bit of time to switch from dry to wet food. This is an awesome site that I found and have referred to many times. http://www.catnutrition.org/index.htmlThe Conscious Cat also has information on cat nutrition.
Vet recommendations for a dog Hi All,
I know similar questions have been asked in the past but mainly contain old recommendations of closed practices or for cats. We...

Granville Island vets are all awesome. Avoid Kits Point, they throw drugs at you all the time and one time we went in and the doctor didn’t even look at my dog.

Granville Island Vet Hospital, absolutely love those guys.

i’ve been taking my dog to acadia vets on w broadway and i like the vet there and the team have been super friendly!
like another user mentioned, the clinic was bought (last year i believe) by a vet who also owns arbutus west animal clinic and east van vet clinic. i initially took my dog to east van as it’s the closest to me for a check up and vaccines. was supposed to go to arbutus west for her dental (was told east van location doesn’t do complicated surgeries) but it got postponed by a week and moved to acadia which i’m glad it did. the vet who owns the clinics mainly practices at arbutus west and is quite rude if you leave a bad review (reading his responses makes me cringe). thankfully he doesn’t practice at acadia which is why i still take my dog there.

In Kits, Cypress Street Animal Hospital has been good to us for 18 years now. Dr Bahtia there has been a loving and caring vet to all three of our dogs past and present and his techs have made both us and our dogs feel safe and cared for even in the worst of times. https://cypressvet.com/

Yaletown Pet Hospital is fantastic, there’s a multistore car park next door too.

Yaletown Animals Hospital is great, my girl RUNS in and they even let her join their staff meeting one day! I wasnt happy with West End Vet Clinic, so changed to Yaletown and we are so much happier!
hitortabi replied:
Avoid Atlas and Hemlock. They'll botch surgeries, overdose your dog on opioids for routine procedures, and then lose your dog completely by leaving an outside door open. Total neglect and malpractice.
We tried West End Vet and they gave our dog vaccinations she already had, even after submitting all of her previous medical records to them, then blamed us for not verbally telling them as well. Didn't ask permission. They gave her 3 other exams/procedures without asking (optional/non time sensitive things we didn't go in for nor did we discuss like flea medicine and anal gland expressing) and our bill was 4x the amount expected, although those things would've had to have been done eventually and weren't harmful to her like the double vaccine. Regardless, fck West End Vet.
VCA has been good to us! Their Emergency Animal Hospital is also amazing and empathetic and just wonderful at what they do. SPCA was great before they stopped treating patients due to COVID... we'd go back to them if they hadn't refused to return our $400 deposit.
Norgate in North Van was pleasant and professional as well!

I can't really recommend a regular vet, but if the shit hits the fan, Canada West is where you go. https://canadawestvets.com/
I used to use Acadia on Broadway, they were acquired and now part of a chain which includes arbutus west clinic on 16th. I wasn't a fan of them after and lost confidence in them (terminally ill cat not handled well).
Using Yaletown pet hospital and they seem fine so far, but they're a bit pricy. Another dog owner I know goes there and talks about natural supplements with her vet all the time, and they've been supportive of my dog's raw diet.
Burrard animal clinic is supposedly ok but since they're an emergency clinic, regular appointments get delayed all the time. Don't go there if you value your time.

West King Ed Vet Animal Clinic has been great for us. Our pup had eye surgery at 6 months there and they did an amazing job, both the surgery itself went perfectly and the care surrounding it was comfortable, informative and as stressless as possible. The vets are really good communicators in our experience and seem very proficient and have always made us feel comfortable at every step. Their rates seem completely fair and transparent. I would/do recommend them to my family and friends.

West Boulevard Vet in Kerrisdale. We have taken our dogs there for over 5 years. Staff are truly amazing there. The cost is slightly more but for your pet it’s worth it to pay for proper care now. We previously went to to the horrific Atlas Animal and Cypress St (now closed but maybe it’s Hemlock now?).

Def not cheap, but my old vet go-to was Oak Animal Hospital. Now that my fav vet there has moved away, I’ll prob go elsewhere if needed

Joanie I'm so sorry you are going thtough rhis especially at Christmas. Not sure if our wonderful old vet is around but his name is Richard Calland. Naturopathic and general Vet, extremely caring. He makes house visits. Took care of Bart's passing gracefully for us when it was his time and when Sarah passed he made all her arrangements for cremation. I can contact a friend that still uses him if you like?
Cheryl C. replied:
Can you call your vet and see if he has recommendations. I had Tobi PTS at home, but it was his regular vet, lots of vets will come to the home. ( Mine did it on his lunch hour)
Sylvie F. replied:
Another vote for my vet Dr. Richard Calland does house calls. He is very caring and compassionate. I'm glad people are giving you many options -- surely one of them will be in town for the holidays in case you need someone.

Hugs to you and Teddy, Joanie.... I worked with Dr Krakuaer (Shulamit) a long time ago and she was a very kind vet. I hope you don't have to make this most terrible decision over the holidays... You have many friends that are behind you 100%. We love you!
