Looking for Residential Architect Looking for a reputable, patient, and experienced residential architect that can provide some project management support for an acreage.

Can only recommend one to stay away from. Fusion Home Designs. She did my brother's acreage and it was a painful process. A couple of the highlights. 1. Put a window on a wall that had a roof butting up against it. 2. Deleted the fireplace without consulting and then tried to charge to have it put back. 3. Didn't include detailed drawings of how two roofs joined (a section of the house connecting to the upper floor of the garage), so the contractor needed to problem-solve on the fly. Seems to point to an inattentive firm. http://www.fusionhd.ca/process.html *edit - spelling*

An architect will be patient as long as you pay them every time you change your mind.

Kirk Hodgson, I think he's with Manu Chugh still. Edit: He is now with Gibbs Gage.

Did you find your builder yet or are you going to do it on your own? Also, what exactly do you mean by 'project management support'? Are you looking for them to do more than just the drawings? Note that 'patient' will cost you. The longer you drag things out, the more you will spend. I hope you are not planning on designing the home on the fly while it is under construction and making constant changes. I GUARANTEE it will cost you more money that way. Have the plans drawn, get all of your selections completed AND THEN build it. You could try calling Chris at Sorora Construction. They also do the drafting in house.

Without trying to hijack OPs thread too much - has anyone here built a custom home before? If so I'd like to hear about it as it's something we're strongly considering in the future.

Do you need an Architect or an AT? If you are looking for something straight forward and simple and experienced AT will be way more cost effective (and probably more knowledgeable) than a cheap architect. I would only recommend an architect if you are looking for a statement project.
