Recommendations for gym flooring/installation Hi!
My basement is currently all carpet and I am looking for help/opinions/sites for replacing a portion of my basement...

I bought horse stall mats from Rymar Flooring - well worth the money. I do not have carpet floors, but these are heavy enough they should do the trick. Great for heavy weights, gym equipment, etc. Much better pricing by size than interlocking options. Best of luck!

Swisstrax! I have it in my shop and will be using their rubbertrax for my gym floor surface. They are out of Delta BC and have great layout tools on their website

I do yoga without mats on the cork floors in my bedroom. Its a softer warmer flooring.

I went with CDL Carpet & Floor for this exact type of project. They removed carpet from a section of my basement and then leveled the floor and put down vinyl plank. I have rubber mats under my cardio equipment. I'm happy with how it turned out, I think the vinyl plank gives it a little more utility in the future if another home owner doesn't want to use the space as a home gym.

Check out rymar. Local company. We just use the rubber puzzle pieces over carpet. They work okay and will be fine for your purposes. But a little soft without something (ie. Plywood) in between carpet and rubber if doing something like heavy squats with barbell

i nailed a crate sized amount of condoms to the floor. it made things worse.

Just joined some plywood with mending plates then construction adhesive (liquid nailed) on garage flooring from Costco with some weights on top while it set

We ripped up the carpet and put the interlocking tiles down - it’s a fair amount of work to make sure everything lined up and do all the cutting, but worth it. We used this product https://perfectsurfaces.ca/product/gator-interlock-tile/

We had those foam tiles over carpet and the shit would constantly shift. Replaced it with this stuff which is much more solid: https://www.lowes.ca/product/multipurpose-flooring/222-in-x-222-in-x-516-in-interlocking-rubber-floor-tile-538448 Our spin bike is stable over this stuff.

Fitness depot sells rubber floor tiles in a variety of sizes. Price was reasonable for the coverage for our home gym.
Wanderito replied:
Might be more than you are looking to do. But I have carpet on I think 8 mm foam, so I used 1/2” plywood 4 x8’ pieces that I laid down (2 layers) and then I put a 4 x8 finished plywood down the middle with rubber mats from bells of steel (39”x39”) on either side. It’s a lifting platform that also has my bike on it as well.

These are what I use: https://www.fitnessdepot.ca/C11FCA690367/northern-lights-rubber-slab-mat-72-x-48-x-3-4-mtrs724834.html Very happy with them. Currently have one under the squat cage, one under the treadmill and one for deadlifts/Oly.

(a) I recommend Calgary Electrical: http://www.calgaryelectrical.com/ They did our basement (including steel studs and wooden studs) on time, with no issues, and passed the two rounds of inspection with no problems.

The electrician we used was good. Northern Electric... They came through our general though who I would not recommend. What are you planning on doing?

Durkee Construction - Vernon is awesome, professional and really nice. He has access to all trades, his electrician is spot on. He did a full reno for my brother. There were no glitches, everything was done cleanly and on time. I have only wonderful things to say about him. 403-286-0638www.durkeeconstruction.com

DO NOT USE JORDAN'S They are fucks. I have heard nothing but good things about CDL flooring. Jordan's did an insurance claim for us two years ago and still owe us a box of hardwood and some filler. Every time we call they blow smoke up our asses and never follow through. CDL for life. There are two locations depending on where you live. Just google "CDL flooring."
