Arborists that actually come out, quote, and then come back to do the job? I don't understand this city sometimes...
TL;DR - any of y'all an arborist that actually...
briodan replied:
Due to it being a mostly seasonal job, there are not that many people in town that do the work, which results in very busy summers for most arborists, so most of them prioritize work that is the most profitable/easiest to do.

Lots of people in this thread offering suggestions. I for one had the same problem.
silvershines replied:
The City has a list of arborists to deal with City trees, but it doesn't mean you can't use them. From what I saw another redditor mention last week, he is an arborist and said they have no shortage of work in their industry. http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Pages/Planning-and-Operations/Tree-Management/Tree-protection-bylaws.aspx#contractors

Green Drop has been taking care of my trees for years. Never had a problem (except I choke on the cost of pruning my giant Manitoba Maples)

Last spring, I contacted 4 companies for quotes, and received pretty detailed quotes from all 4 within 2 weeks. I ended up going with Troy from Aspen Tree Service. Came in, did the job as quoted. Called him back for an additional job a week later. No complaints.

About ten years ago, I asked ArborCare for a quote to get a tree ... I told them what tree I was wanting done and they didn't give me any quote, they just removed the tree and sent me a bill! Grrrr.
northcrunk replied:
http://www.blackbirdarborist.com/ I have them come out every year. They do a great job and are locally owned.
inko replied:
How much does a tree pruning typically cost? I know that is vague question and the cost likely varies heavily based on the circumstance, but can anyone give me a general idea? We have an Oak tree that needs some pruning, and my neighbour recommended Adair Tree care.
Dirtpig replied:
I went out and bought myself a gas powered pole saw that you can change out the ends on, and change the length. I can put a chainsaw or a hedge trimmer on it. I can shorten it and use it as a whipper snipper, edger, tiller, etc. Anyways, it cost me about $300(?) back when I bought it. I just trimmed up all of the trees myself this weekend. Took maybe 2 hours, with my wife cleaning up the mess as I went along.

Same happened to us. Came out twice to confirm what was to be done, then disappeared. Same thing with a contractor to fix a section of eavestrough, and a deck/fence guy. Why waste time doing quotes? Edit to add: Initial quote was in the fall last year. They've had plenty of "non busy" time to come and do the work. Also, they keep phoning with "specials" for existing customers, and I ask them how about coming and actually doing the work? They say "they'll look into it" and poof gone again.

Adair tree care is excellent. We've used them a few times. Matt, the owner, is very knowledgeable. Note...this is a busy time of year. You will get better rates for tree removal, etc. during the winter months. Also, note that 'less is best' often. A good arborist can trim your tree and you may not notice a lot of difference. Like a haircut. Anyone can lop off a bunch of branches. Good arborist is looking at shape, future growth, etc. Also..be sure that they have certified arborists and Workman's Comp!

Hi Ivan! These are the disgusting little creatures I picked off of our our mountain ash and apple trees. They were in big groups and were creating a web. I just googled arborist in Strathmore and got a number for Arborcare Tree Service and someone is coming out to have a look in 24-48 hours. I was devastated at the thought of losing our old trees: (

Probably the only arborist that isnt now booked up for 3 months is Black Bird Arborist blackbirdarborist@gmail.com, they are a new company. I work the phones for a company and we are only taking existing clients for storm damage work and even at that we are booked solid with way more work than we can handle.
