Smiles By Rosie in Somerville is THE BEST. I have major dental anxiety (shout out to Gentle Dental in Porter Sq, who told me my teeth were shit and quoted me for $3 k of work that was deemed unnecessary by other dentists) and Rosie specializes in folks who are afraid and haven't been in a while. They are closed right now due to COVID, but hope to re-open (with safety restrictions) once they are able.

My cousin had a life-long fear of the dentist due to bad experiences as a kid. She broke a tooth and had to go. Sandra Tranfaglia in Somerville changed everything for her! She has her own practice.

Vast Dental in Newton has been a life changer for me. I've had historically awful experiences with dentists and have compounding health issues that don't help the upkeep of my teeth. There's been no judgement and so much understanding for my past circumstances. While I still get shivers down my spine during cleanings I'm not scared and they're not painful. Plus they accept MassHealth!! https://www.vastdental.com/

I have been going to [Dental Associates of Walpole](http://www.dentalassociatesofwalpole.com/) for my whole life. I live in Boston and drive there, I'm committed.

Dental specialties in Randolph has been amazing. They also offer sedation dentistry if you need it. A family member has severe dentist anxiety and has done it a few times for cleanings and said it was great.

Theroux Dental Associates. Only thing is they’re out in Grafton... referred to them by a family friend.
CitiDental High Street, Dr Dafjola. She is so sweet.

Element Dental in Medford, was really great. https://www.elementdentalma.com/

Dr. Livshin at Landmark Dental In Norwood (near airport). I had major dental phobia and he was patient with me and didn’t pressure me to do any procedures I didn’t have the courage for yet. At this point I’ve seen him for over a decade. I have root canals, crowns and all 4 wisdom teeth out by him. He prescribes meds for sedation, offers nitrous for even a cleaning and he’s just an all around awesome guy who tells you to “Be Well” and really means it. Also, he calls or emails on the weekend to check how you’re feeling after major work. The best.

If you are near metro west, Hudson Family Dental. I hate dentists and had shitty experiences with my one in West Roxbury and Billerica. Had some emergency work done at Copley Dental, but wouldn't travel there go there unless I lived in the back bay for regular cleanings. My wife recommended Hudson Family Dental and I really hate going to the dentist, and actually had a great experience.

Brookline Progressive Dental is the only place I'll go now, I have had horrible experiences elsewhere but the team there is always very understanding and chill about what you need to feel comfortable.

If it's not too far for you, Dr. Bright in Somerville is great. She's super nice & has a very small private practice. Reasonable cost for basics and they wont try to convince to get unnecessary work done. Also good COVID safety practices among the staff last time I was there.
hak8or replied:
You should say why you hate dentists. If you are unlucky and have bad teeth/gums, or take poor care of your teeth (floss you fools!), then dental visits a re bound to suck because working in teeth is naturally shitty. Doesn't matter how good of a dentist it will be, the experience will still suck. If you experienced bad dentists (don't tell you shit, clearly trying to give you unnecessary procedures to get money, don't put in effort to be gentle), then that I can understand more so. Edit: Downvotes? Really? Why?

These local dental schools offer patient care at a discount.

My five years' experience at Tufts:
\- Three implants, two fillings, regular checkup and cleaning.
\- A student is assigned to a patient, and will care for the patient until the student graduates. A new student is then assigned.
\- Every procedure is first diagnosed by a student, followed by consultation with one or more faculty. Once confirmed, simpler procedures (fillings, etc.) are done by the students. When done, a faculty will check up and correct (if necessary). For more complex procedures (implants, etc.), a faculty would be more involved, often doing the bulk of the work.
\- Need to be patient with the scheduling.

If you live in the Easton area, I highly recommend Dr. Payne. Our family has been going to him for years.

Janis Moriarty in Winchester. I’ve been going there for like 25 years, since I was in grade school. I have an anxiety disorder and they’re always patient and accommodating.

I highly recommend Brito Family Dental in Southie. Clean, friendly, no BS, quick and painless! I was quoted $1800 for a crown by another popular dentist in the city and went to him for a second opinion. He could’ve easily gotten away with charging me tons of money, but instead told me that the tooth didn’t need to be fixed at all. It’s been a few years and I haven’t had any issues at all with that tooth, and saved almost $2 k

Kid's dentist recommendation needed! Somewhere close to us - Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington would be ideal. I need an amazing dentist for Yona - I predict he's...

Amanda B. replied:
Dr. Filstrup Cambridge Pediatric Dental...second that! She has been great to my now-teen
Marianne M. replied:
Pediatric Dental Arts in Watertown. L asks when we get to go back!
Anna E. replied:
I second Dr. Bright – I miss her!
Lee P. replied:
Dr Bright is AMAZING - Andrew had two fillings with her a few months ago and literally didn't want to leave at the end...and still asks about when we get to go back - no joke!! She called it a "special car wash for his teeth" and joked and laughed with him the entire time.
Jill C. replied:
We also see Dr. Javedan at Cambridge Children's (and also at the pediatrician on the first floor) and he is so great. Gentle, kind, fun. He has extensive experience with kids with special needs so he is really good at just taking it slow. Also, the NP at our pedi said the only problem with them is that their office is so cool, the kids all come downstairs and want to know why there aren't iPads mounted on the ceiling at the doctor's office, too.
Do you have a dentist that you trust in the Cambridge area? I need a second opinion. Thanks in advance :)
Lisa H. replied:
We got to the one in the Food Basics plaza in Hespeler. Dr Ferrari is great, as is his hygienist.
Kathy D. replied:
Dr. Mehan.....she is awesome!! In plaza behind Zehrs at Cambridge centre where EI office is. She's great with the kids and Lee who hates the dentist.
Sophie B. replied:
Annita Steckle on Jamison...is fantastic.
Melanie M. replied:
Thanks for your help, I was in so much pain!! The only place I could get into at such short notice was Dr Steckle on Jamieson, she is awesome! I have found myself a new dentist:)
Can anyone recommend a dentist in Cambridge? my last one wasn't good. Thanks X

Mr Afonso at Chesterton dental practice, near the Elizabeth way roundabout, is amazing, makes sure everything is perfect before he signs of the work, nicest most thorough and painless dentist I've ever had.
