When planning a trip, should you use a vacation planner/travel agent or no? What are the perks of using one as opposed to doing it yourself? How can you be sure you are...

I'll often shop the Disney website to see what is available and for how much and then contact my travel agent at The Magic for Less. He's grabbed new offers for us without being asked, arranged dining reservations, offered to get Fastpass+ reservations for us, booked both packages and room-only reservations for us. The price is always at least as good as what I could get on the website. He even booked an Adventures By Disney trip for us. His main focus is Disney but has booked Princess Cruise Line for us, too. These are all things I could've done myself but I didn't have to stay on hold for an hour to rebook a reservation when a new offer came out. I didn't have to deal with the WDW reservations website which frequently frustrates me (though it has improved greatly over the years). I asked him why he does it and he told me just because he loves Disney and wants others to have magical experiences, too.

I have always done it myself until I met and got to know a Disney Planner at Wishes Family Travel. Now I give the bookings to her just because I know she could use the money more than Disney does. I still plan pretty much everything though, not because she can't or that she isn't good at her job, but because I'm a control freak.

I recommend Passporters Walt Disney World. I NEVER plan a trip without this book. It is the be all end all in guides/planners for any Disney trip. It has planning worksheets, maps, descriptions of everything from food to rides to transportation to resorts to tickets... you name it. You can find it at any Barnes n Noble for around $20 or you can purchase it from their website. http://www.passporterstore.com/store/wdwspiral2016.aspx

Travel agents don't charge for their services. What you pay on Disney.com is the same price you'd pay with an Agent.
