Can anyone suggest a good orthopedist West of The Ashley for me? I love Jay Demarco but very hard to get into right now and feeling a lot of pain in my shoulder!!
Michael S. replied:
I really like Ken Caldwell. He is the ortho for The Citadel football team and is very good. He is in the group at St Francis West Ashley.
Sarah B. replied:
Richard Friedman operated on my shoulder and wrote a textbook on the shoulder. When I went in for physical therapy after my surgery, my therapist (who I had been seeing for a few months before the surgery) examined me and said "no one gets range of motion like Dr Freidman"

Contact Dr. Tom Gross in Columbia SC. He is the very best! http://www.grossortho.com
Azita V. replied:
Thank you Jennifer Brechko Alphonse. I have heard a lot about Dr. Caldwell, but when I called his office, they told me his next available appointment will in almost 2 months! For now, I made an appointment with Dr. Robert Schoderbek who also works at Orthopedic Specialists of Charleston for August 9 th. But when I looked at the out of pocket costs, I realized I’m much better off to cancel it.
Azita V. replied:
Thanks Lindsey S. Morgan... I have already started my PT, but out of curosity checked the Olympic Physical Therapy, and you guys are out of network too! Wow, what a great insurace I got! Over $600/month on insurace, and seems like all the good ones are out of network!
Martin J. replied:
I don't even have a car, but I got some friends to take me to Columbia for my surgery. It is worth it to get someone as good as Dr. Gross. Go up and meet with him before you make a decision.
Emily L. replied:
you should look into coventry one - I pay $175 a month thru them and I can give you the name of the guy I got my policy thru if you're interested http://coventryone.coventryhealthcare.com/

Dr. Kenneth Caldwell is in Charleston and he's great! He removed a benign tumor from my knee 20 years ago and did a meniscus repair a couple years back.

Darlene M. replied:
One of my very close friends (a nurse) had a knee replacement by Dr. Waddell (Bubba) Gilmore. She likes him a lot. Here's his website. http://www.palmettoortho.com/OurTeam.aspx
Darlene M. replied:
Obviously the picture is not Dr. Gilmore. She's the PA in the practice:).
Page H. replied:
I use Dr. Heather McIntosh of Palmetto Orthopedics. She has been treating my shoulder and she understands when I would rather use an over the counter anti- inflammation rather than the hard stuff.
Lindsey M. replied:
Consider coming to Olympic Physical Therapy for your post-op rehab! ;-) (of course, you could come pre-operatively as well if your surgeon recommends it.) Good Luck!

Oceanside Vet on Folly Road has replaced both of my dog's knees! Dr Gipe is amazing and I found them to be very reasonably priced and super helpful / supportive. I know they take Care Credit, which is essentially a credit card you can apply for that has zero percent interest for a period (usually a year) and you can make payments that way!
Jessica C. replied:
We go to Charleston Harbor Veterinarians for routine visits, but our dog needed a pretty extensive surgery so we went to Charleston Veterinary Referral Center - which we were referred to by CHV. Great experiences with both places!

Anyone recommend a good orthopedic surgeon in Charleston, SC?

Dr Graham did knee surgery on me when I was 7 months pregnant and broke my patella in two. He later did a second surgery taking the hardware out of my knee around 14 months later both were a success. Great Doctor the best.

Dr. Graham "scoped" both of my knees (30+ years of hardcourt tennis) and is great. He has an office in West Ashley too@St. Francis Hospital. Sooner repair is better than later, btw.
