Weatons are bundle of energy and have a long puppyhood of about 2 yrs. Known for being rambuntious and stubborn--a terrier trait. Terriers require a strong owner with a firm hand from a very young age or they walk all over you. When your trainer suggests a martingale collar, give me a shout as i sell them over at Shabby Chic owned by Brandi Ruch-Bruns in Waxhaw.

I trained my dog by myself, but it required a lot of patience and often tears. I just want to wish you and your dog the best, because it is so frustrating.

Dog Wizard is what we used for our dog. It’s expensive, but it works. They offer e-collar and non e-collar alternatives. Unsolicited advice: I had a similar attitude on e-collars before we started with the training and wanted nothing to do with it. But, then they walked me through it and I actually felt what the dog would feel (it’s like a gentle tap) so we went with that approach because the e-collar would give us long-range control off-leash. I don’r know if that fits your needs but just something to think about.
