You'd be shocked at the killer stuff you can find at the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore[s]. I usually hit the one up on Main, but there is another one in Cleveland, I think.

I just purchased solid wood Acacia (Asian Walnut) flooring from Carpets of Dalton for $4.99 a sqr/ft. It looks amazing, it's sustainable and it's one of the hardest woods you can get. http://i.imgur.com/eV9Gf8P.jpg

I have some experience with kitchens and baths. All the sources in this thread are good ones. The most important part of a remodel is planning and budgeting. My advice would be to establish a clear vision and then try to work within budgetary constraints. Shop around and enjoy the city.
