The Velveteen Rabbit is wonderful for unique merchandise and service. If you don't mind the distance, there are two others that are similar: Kids Korner on 460 (across from Virginia Diner) in Wakefield and The Carousel on Duke of Gloucester in Williamsburg.

Connie's Kids used to have a store front on Battlefield Blvd across from Chesapeake General but she had to close the store. However, she still sells the same inventory but only online. She is still local so I believe she also has the capability to do pickups in the area. www.connieskids.com and you can find her business on Facebook as well. I have also heard great things about a store in the City Center area of Newport News called The Perfect Setting.
