My school is becoming a dual language school. I will have a bilingual pre-k and K next year. I need some recommendations for easy but quality Spanish songs and dances....

My fav Spanish song to teach my kinder kiddos is Juanito ... Great for movement and naming of body parts in Spanish !!! .... YouTube Chango Huango by Mariachi Campanas de America ... My kinder kids love to dance this one ... Or we'll have an "instrument jam" to this song ... All students get a diff percussion instrument ... And then we trade instruments as we listen/accompany the song ...

I have DL. I started slow (cause I didn't know anything!) Bate Bate Chocolate, La Raspa (they LOVE this dance. Kinder just did it on their performance) This book is fantastic. Written by a bi-lingual Kodaly expert. Appropriate ranges, etc. El Patio de Mi Casa (get the CD too!) Some of these are to hard for my non spanish speaking self to learn BUT the kids LOVE to help you (and correct you!) Some of the easier stuff I've done has been out of the text book. It tends to be repetitive and has the pronunciation track on the CD along with the IPA. http://www.giamusic.com/search_details.cfm?title_id=7492

I know a wonderful song - Los Chimichimitos from Venezuela. It's a really good ice breaker and introduction to getting the kids to move freely in front of each other. Contact me directly if you want more information and/or me to teach it to you.

Dr. Beatriz Aguilar may have some publications. She is presenting at an Early Childhood Music Conference this year. Also, there is a publication by McGraw Hill with lots of Spanish songs. The Spotlight on Music program K-6 has many spanish songs included. K and 1 st grade Game Plan by Jeff Kriske and Randy Delleles also include several spanish songs with games. There is one book "Children's Songs of Mexico" collected by Roberta McGlaughlin and Lucille Wood and Des Colores and Other Latin American Folksongs for Children collected by Jose Luis Orozco.
