I was a nanny way back when it was popular to use Caucasian young adults who were actually very good at being moms. Many like myself, didn't want to start a family of their own yet but they were very good with children. It may be hard to find a Caucasian nanny now because the Asians have taken over the market but Caucasians can be just as good as Filipinas (Filipinos are the males) if given the chance and if given a good salary, that will be worth the effort of raising your child. Your children should be the most important thing in your life therefore paying a nanny a very good salary should be as important. Using everything possible in your arsenal of protection should also be a high priority as Don Adams has stated. If you can, get written references from everyone you interview and double check all of them and not just by phone, meet the references if you can because your child's life may depend on it. And of course, Criminal Check everyone. I had and still have references from my high school teachers, as well as every person I worked for which always made a huge difference. Private childcare was my profession while I attended university but it wasn't looked on as a great profession, unless you were a British nanny. However all of my parents REALLY cared about their kids so they treated me with golden gloves. I also suggest that you go to their residence in order to see how they usually live. I was very particular about who I would work for so I encouraged them to check out my home as I would check out theirs. Even if your child won't be staying at their home, it will give you an idea of their lifestyle and of how they will be raising your child. Remember that you will be putting your child's life in someone else's hands. They will be teaching your child to roll over, sit up, stand, walk, drink from a cup, how to eat, how to hold a utensil, how to ride a tricycle, how to talk, how to be polite, how to share, how to be gentle with other babies and pets, how to use a toilet, etc, etc. I could go on and on. My parents, were always fantastic and always gave me the credit for teaching not only their 16 month old how to use the toilet but I also taught them how to teach their child. Especially for 1st time parents, I had my fantastic mom who taught me many of the old fashioned processes of raising an infant into a toddler, etc. All of my parents were so very grateful for the efforts that I went to such as teaching their 6 mth old to eat their fruits every morning so that they could sit on their potty to have their bm just like clockwork every single day. Then on the weekends the parents knew what their routine should be and there wasn't any problems as long as all adults followed through with the same teaching. And this applies to manners, learning to accept the word NO happily, etc. Raising a child is a big job so please never forget what your nanny should be doing and if you want housework done as well make sure it is stipulated in your contract. In my day I never needed a contract and I always did the housework as a courtesy when I had time. And in an already neat, tidy home, keeping the house up isn't as hard as one would think. And if the nanny is going to be taking your child outside and later to parks, the zoo, museums or whatever whereby they will be driving then add that to the contract. Don't forget that your nanny will be working one on one with your child but accidents do happen. However I believe that having a nanny is like having another grandma, auntie or any other family member. The one-on-one care will make for a better all around person as far as I'm concerned. And a nanny has to teach babes about poisonous plants, dangerous animals, etc. Anything that you plan on teaching your child, they will be teaching them. Don't forget that as they mature, they need to know that nanny is there to raise them into a great child, tween, teen, etc. They are not there to entertain them, although they love to do that at times. Lastly, my opinion of daycares is that the children can't be watched at all times. I'm not telling you the following to scare you, it's just to inform you and help you decide. I've heard of a 2 yr old who was alone in an area of the yard where the other kids had just left, when a huge tree branch fell on his head, disabling him for life. I've also heard of children dying because they were left to sleep in a car seat that wasn't meant for such a use. Their necks flopped forward as kids necks will do when sleeping but in the car seat they can't move so the air supply was cut off and the children died. And of course we've all heard of babies dying if SIDS, etc. Whether these incidents could have been prevented using a nanny or not, is your decision but personally I'll always go for a nanny. Please check out all childproofing/safety that you can, including the proper use of car seats. I know this was long but I hope that it was worth it and that it helped

Im shocked nobody mentioned Neufeld Farms yet. They have the best freezer food type products Ive ever had. The appetizers bring the pub to your home if u have an air fryer. Made locally from local products and veggies picked daily.

Can't help with Daycare/babysitter options. Food options though, I would recommend Nature's Pickings on Sumas Way, Neufeld's is also great for some local finds (King Rd), as well as Lepp's Market on Abby/Mission Hwy.

Re: fresh food - there's a place at High Street mall called Kin's that is really good for getting fresh produce- [link to their website](https://kinsfarmmarket.com/).
If you're looking for a good place to buy meat, then Rempel Meats is the best [link](http://rempelmeats.com/)
The Abbotsford farmer's market is always amazing - [link](https://afcm.ca/)
SKT Farm Market on McCallum is where my partner and I buy most of our vegetables - they're a really good place if you're able to eat the veggies quickly, as they're on the older side. We eat a ton of veggies, so this is a great option for us because of the price point and also because the "just in time" inventory method works in our fridge :) [link](http://sktfarmmarket.com/)
The Sprouted Oven is my hands-down favorite place to buy grocery staples like flour, granola, etc. They are a bit pricier, but they're a local business that sources local groceries (as much as possible), and they also sell AMAZING pastries, pizzas, and loaves of bread - [link](https://www.sproutedoven.com/)
I'm not a parent, so I don't know much about dayhome/daycare. Sorry! Hope this helps!

My sister is a supervisor at Little Koala Montessori Academy and they do an amazing job with the kids. They use a Montessori model of teaching and care for children right up preschool. All staff either have their ECE certificates or diplomas. The daycare is close to Historic Downtown Abbotsford and is only a 10 minute bus ride from UFV.

Little Leaders Child Care on McCallum is close to UFV. Really competent owner and the inside space is really nice.

Local Food Supply has a small market. Everything is local. Bread, meat, dry items frozen stuff. It was a bit pricey for me, but seemed nice.

Contemporary kids in downtown we pay approx $1100 a month for 6:30 am-6 pm. Awesome hours, great staff, super flexible hours.

If you're willing to make the trek out to Chilliwack, [Benanna Bakery](https://www.benannabakery.com/) is awesome. Their sourdough is so good I have to limit how often I buy it, cause I can easily go through a loaf in a couple days. But they make cakes, pies, soups, tarts, and other baked goods as well. Alternatively, they do deliver to Abbotsford, sometimes even for free. But YMMV. I personally like the drive to Chilli and back.
