Once the sun is up, walk both sides of the two blocks on hastings between Carrall and Main. You might find your laptop there amongst all the other stolen stuff on display.. Don't pick a fight with anyone. Just take note and call VPD to help you. Theres almost always a cop walking those two blocks. And yeah, theres a few auto wreckers on Mitchell island. Sorry this happened to you. Edit: Changed Cordova to Carrall

Mitchell Island has pick and pulls. What kind of car is it?

Check out All Set auto glass on main and 22 nd or so. They’ve replaced my windows nearly every time I’ve had them smashed, at a great price and quickly, even the hard to find ones. Sorry it happened to you!
raulh replied:
avenue auto glass on Clark had the lowest price when i had my window replaced, they did a good job and only took a few hours. https://goo.gl/maps/TVjuQSRG2 rCYZVyD6

Welcome to Vancouver, best place on earth for a junkie to rob you blind while the police, courts and government do absolutely nothing.

Had this happen to a group of friends who were visiting a few months ago. They also lost a MacBook and spent most of the weekend walking up and down Hastings, especially checking out the street markets to see if it showed up. Unfortunately, had to give up after two days of no success. It was better to move on at that point. Good luck.
JustinKuun replied:
You can always go to a body shop and see if they can find you a used one. They should be able to search for used car parts from local yards.
LeoBannister replied:
We really should put a sticky or something warning tourists not to leave shit in their cars. Fuck if I have anything important in a car and run into a store even for a second it's coming with me.
0010200304 replied:
Check craigslist or better yet, take a stroll down east Hastings and take a look at all the little set ups they have there. Unfortunately though I bet it was already pawned for cash so maybe check pawn shops around Hastings but idk what that will do for you. Maybe if you can prove it’s yours the cops will let you take it back idk

Lots of stolen stuff is listed on letgo.

That's terrible OP. Where did you leave it parked and for how long?

Windows are super cheap from a dealer or glass shop its not worth it to get scrap yard glass 99% of the time. lx570 passenger window from lexus is $270

Oh wow, some junkie will be rocking a sick gaming top! I wonder if they know the value of these things? I bet that junkie will trade it for a couple of hits and call it a day.
airplane-driver replied:
As much as this sucks, you really shouldn't have left any of that stuff I'm your car. In the past when I drove across the country I either slept with my shit in the car, or moved everything into my motel room every night. The cops can't really do anything.. what do you expect from them?
Hung4str8 replied:
Not trying to be a jerk but why did you buy such a expensive laptop? Any tracking software with it?

Check Craigslist here. Kijiji never got off the ground in the same way here. M

Check your credit card insurance. Many cards insure purchases from 90-120 days against theft, so if it's 'brand new' you may be partially- or fully-insured.

The best wrecker is pick a part in the valley. about an hours drive.

you can do a car lookup as well. As for the laptop, if they dont realize what they got its probably going to be at hastings and main for $20. check craigslist for sure on that one. Hard to know if the junkies could recognize the difference between a nice laptop and a shit one, but a fence would, and then put it on CL.
never leave anything in a vehicle in vancouver or its gone. we have a horrible thieving problem that gets conflated with a mental health problem and is at a kind of logjam of "not my problem" by various levels of government and citizens who dont live and work in the downtown, or the east side.
spennyboo replied:
First, I feel terrible and really hope you find your stuff. Second, never leave items in your car visible in any major city. Always at least put them in a covered trunk where it's not visible. Good luck on your search and I hope this doesn't hurt your image of the city. It's pretty disturbing how bad the drug problem is though, and there seems to be no solution (or nobody ever willing to do anything about it).

LetGo is a big one for stolen shit and Hastings

There are some auto body shops with a small collection of junk cars and pre-pulled parts on Byrne Road near Marine Way. (49.2029593, -122.9803669)

Does anyone know of any decent pawn shops in the area? I know they often have a rather nefarious reputation but this is the reason for my question. I inherited a piece...
Don C. replied:
Pawn shops suck. They eill give you amount based on weight alone. Screw you right over. Private sale is best
Jeff B. replied:
Don't trust Pawn shops. It's a nice looking ring. Put it on one of the bidding sites, maybe the Fraser Valley one for more action. You'll get way more for it. Ask some pawn shops what they will give you for it and use that as your starting bid price. Guarantee you it goes for a lot more. Friday's and Saturdays are usually best and have it close around 6 to 7 pm
Candace E. replied:
Pawn Shops will pay you what it's worth in metal and stone weight. Everyone else is right, you should have it appraised and sell it privately. There are a few places in the lower mainland that will appraise estate jewelry for you.
Janet W. replied:
Yes...sell privately, you will get more. Pawn shops want to make a profit off of your stuff, money is better in your own pocket!
So my son decided to test gravity with our 40 inch flatscreen tv... Gravity won, I lost. Now I need to find a really good pawn shop or store for cheaper TVs.. Where do...

Looking for a pawn shop to buy old jewelry. I have some old rings I'd like gone. Thanks

^ It's called Main Jewellery & Loans at 5885 Vedder Road. It's my first stop if I'm looking to buy jewellery and I've sold there as well. I recommend:)
Looking for a used guitar. nothing fancy. i am going to learn to play!!! can anyone point me in the right direction? pawn shops etc?
Dave L. replied:
Maybe try Long & McQuade or Dave's Roadhouse to see what they have and get some advise on what is a good beginner guitar. Trust me a good guitar makes the difference between enjoyment and frustration.
