Word of mouth is THE best form of advertising, and I think it is far more important for determining quality, as opposed to who can afford the most amount of marketing on Google. Support locals, ask locals!

I just go to www.google.co.nz and type in what I am looking for. The online Yellow Pages are also very helpful for looking up restaurants, trades etc www.yellow.co.nz

Does anyone know of somewhere away from the city that may take a dog over the couple of weeks of the worst Fireworks? Not a kennel type situation she wouldn’t do well...
Tracy D. replied:
Hi Narina, it's such a stress for some dogs. Thanks for trying everything you can for your dog. This place might work for him - rural location (Loburn) and has chalets and bedrooms so not the normal 'kennel/run' type. Their home page states "Anxious or shy dogs will find the experience stress-free and comforting." Might be worth giving them a call and going out to visit to see if it could work for your dog? http://www.shadowestate.co.nz/Shadow-Estate/Home.php
Tracy D. replied:
Blair & Natalie (School of the Naked Dog) do more of a home stay and have a bach out at Selwyn Huts - they might be able to take your dog their for the stay. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have other dogs that would like to escape fireworks. They are positive reinforcement dog trainers as well, so would do all they can to help make your dog feel more at ease. http://www.nakeddog.co.nz/homestays.html

Wellington SPCA vet service only charges to cover costs (not for profit), but cant give an actual figure, and give discounts for Community Services card holders too =)
Help P. replied:
Hi Lee ... yes, there are a couple of options I've found in ChCh anyway. The Cats Protection League in Linwood offer really good deals for Community Card holders for desexing cats at $20-$40 boy/girls. There is the Animal & Bird hospital too - also reasonable prices. Unfortunately, your local SPCA doesn't currently have any special prices - I expect because their resources have been totally overstretched this past year - totally understandable. However, they did have a visit from the SPCA mobile van this month which has gone really well. The mobile van has now moved on to Timaru for April so anyone interested could ring the South Canterbury SPCA there.
Nicky M. replied:
SPCA has another special deal on at the moment, FREE desexing for cats and dogs at your local vet! More info here http://www.spcacanterbury.org.nz/index.php?page=desex-in-the-city Be in super fast as the desexing bus got booked out very fast recently
