It's been a while since this was asked: does anyone have a recommendation for a good local eye doctor? I'm looking for someone who will take their time and make sure...
Munchkins N. replied:
Horizon Eye off Mallard Creek is excellent
Rachel R. replied:
My husband, daughter, and I all go to Horizon Eye Care Center...the Mallard Creek location. We’ve been going there for eight years and have been happy there.

Dawn H. replied:
I didn’t care for Modern Eye in Concord. They made me pay full price for my son’s glasses and I had to file my own insurance claim. My insurer said they were definitely in our network (BCBS) and were not supposed to do that. I ended up paying probably $200 more than I should have. They also gave my son the most expensive options instead of asking my preference. I opt for those usually, but prefer being asked.
Kevin E. replied:
After you see your doctor... Get your prescription and check out ZenniOptical.Com That's where I get my bifocals for $50 - $60. Been using them for years with no problems..
Chantel T. replied:

I have tried several eye “doctors” and wasn’t happy with most. I started going to Dr. Harper at cabarrus eye in concord and have been happy there the last couple of years.

Tara B. replied:
You need to decide if you want an ophthalmologist instead of just an optometrist. Growing up my mom insisted we see the real eye doctor at least once a year as opposed to someone who can kits prescribe glasses and do a glaucoma test. We like Horizon Eye Care in Mallard Creek for our daughter who has worn glasses since she was 5. We take the prescription to Target Optical however and have been happy with them and their pricing as opposed to buying glasses at Horizon.
Audrey L. replied:
University Eye in Charlotte. Dr. Fix. She is excellent. Then take your prescription and go somewhere else to buy your glasses. They are just to high unless you have insurance.

Rose M. replied:
Dr. Martha Smyre, Moorehead Road, Harrisburg. 704-455-5109. I've been going there for at least 17 years. You will not feel rushed. I've tried other large practices prior in Charlotte and in Concord and was not happy with my prescriptions for contacts or glasses - basically I couldn't see with what they prescribed.
Maureen L. replied:
Dr. Fix at University Eye Associates is really great!!!
Jill B. replied:
I took my daughter to Invision Eye Care for her first pair of glasses because the opthomologist she sees didn't accept the insurance she had at the time. I was not impressed. Had to wait forever to get help picking the frames covered by insurance and then it was "here's what she can get" then walked away. She sees Buhilda McGriff. Fortunately, she has different insurance now and can get her glasses there as well. Much better experience.
Dana L. replied:
Dr Smyre!
Jeannie S. replied:

Is there somethig specific you need? I went to Cabarrus Eye Center for my retinal detachment surgery with Dr. Baer. And I've also heard good things about Dr. Handler for cataracts. I had a great experience with the entire staff there.

Kimberli G. replied:
if you find one let me know. I have been seeing Dr Claxton Baer. DO NOT GO TO HIM. I was in the E.R. yesterday, iive had a migraine for the last 3 weeks, ever since he did laser surgery on right eye. been back and forth to see him, he has done nothing to help, and is saying it isnt his fault. Im now on 4 prescriptions from the ER Doc, but no improvement yet.
Cathy D. replied:
I saw Dr. Greybill last year at Lens Crafter's, but he isn't there anymore. I will try Cabarrus Eye Center. Thanks for your help everyone!
Kimberli G. replied:
Dr. Baer IS very nice, but I have had a headache and now migraine since the day he touched my face. I literally just got off the phone with him and he says its not his expertise, i told him i have been in pain since he touched me, he said call my PCP. Hes taking no responsibility and has injured my nerves and muscles in my face.
Debbie R. replied:
My family goes to Dr. Thomas at Cabarrus Eye Center.
Dr Smyre is excellent. My family has gone to her for years.
Michele L. replied:
Another vote for University Eye Associates! Dr. Hamp is our favorite!
Nancyann R. replied:
Not Harrisburg, but worth a trip to Cabarrus Eye Center near Atrium - NorthEast Medical Center. I see Dr. Burchfield. Prefer ophthalmologist over optician. My eyes are too precious, especially as I age. Two buildings - one dedicated to surgeries.

Is there a consignment shop around here that takes women’s clothing? Also, looking for a good eye doctor if anyone has a local recommendation.
Kristi W. replied:
I take my stuff to Uptown Cheapskate in the University area. They are picky about their brands and clothing, but they mostly cater to the UNCC crowd (close to campus) and want to make sure they're keeping up with what's in style. Sometimes they take a ton and sometimes they take one item. Also, make sure you give them seasonal stuff. They won't take shorts and tank tops during winter....etc.
