Trustworthy auto mechanics? I only recently moved to LA and my car needs a smog check before I can have the registration renewed, but my car's engine service light is...

What car do you have?

I always took my cars to [Modesti’s](http://www.modestis.com/) in Culver City, when I lived in that area. I never felt that they were trying to upsell me or provide a service I didn’t need. I live in the Valley now and would definitely go to them again if/when I ever need a major service done. Do you know what the code is? You can get a cheap OBD2 scanner and pull it.

A 2000 4 runner? Badass SUV but notorious for the bad 02 sensors. You're going to have to replace those first, or find a shady Smog Check place that pass it for a fee, but those are hard to come by these days. You mentioned Glendale, if you're near there hit up Garagerz in Burbank, most legit shop I know of. Or replace the sensors yourself.

Unless you have an actual personal friendship with an auto mechanic, "trustworthy auto mechanic" is an oxymoron

I recommend buying from Amazon a diagnostic code reader so you can read the check engine codes yourself and verify what the garage is telling you. I bought one a few years ago for only $15 and it works great, there are newer/ better ones now but here is the one I use: [Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LHVOVK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

If Hollywood isn't too far, my SO and I have gone to this guy for years with various Hondas and Toyotas and he's always been honest & fairly priced. https://www.yelp.com/biz/affordable-care-of-hollywood-los-angeles

I go to Ed Little Auto in Culver City. It's one place I feel like the Yelp reviews actually do it justice. I've been going there for years and they've always treated me well. I don't know if it's their official policy, but they've never charged me a separate fee just to run the diagnostic check. Anytime I've taken it there when the light's on, they just charge me the parts and labor to deal with whatever the issue was.

The place is called Danny’s complete auto repair. He used to work for Toyota and now has his own shop. Its actually in El Monte not Alhambra.

I used to go to ISE Automotive on Hillhurst Ave in Los Feliz. Had a great experience with him, would highly recommend. https://www.yelp.com/biz/ise-automotive-los-angeles?osq=mechanic

(scans thread) Oh, Ed Little and Modesti's are already in here? Fine. Then uh... if it's a VW go see my man Adiz on Gateway off of Pico.

I go to Crown Auto on Pontius Ave. They service the local Highway Patrol vehicles (I own a Crown Vic so it’s nice that they are familiar with the model) and have always done good by me and have always been honest about what service I did and didn’t need.
Does anyone in the LA area have a mechanic that they 100% trust?! My 2002 Acura TL needs a new transmission and I really can't afford it from the dealership. Was...
Kim R. replied:
Yeah. The problem is that the owner did the original recall and got a new transmission at some point. Then Acura extended the warranty as even those new transmissions were failing. But as far as I can see that offer expired. It says on the recall letter that... "The automatic transmission and torque converter are now covered for a total of 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date of original sale." So that would be 2009(ish) This is the page with Caity's VIN: http://owners.acura.com/service-maintenance/recalls?vin=19 uua56662 a011686

Can anyone recommend a good/trusted mechanic in North Hollywood?

RDB/Five Star Tire right next to my place is the best man. They have always given me parts at cost and low labor. Plus my civic is usually on the lift next to a lambo which makes me feel good.
