Squirrels and rats are a bigger problem than I realized and I should have forked out the $ earlier rather than waiting. Think of it as 2K to solve a problem over many years you don't want to have. Critter Catchers in Acworth was solid and reasonable fees. If you have the cash, go ahead and pay for the exclusion work. Otherwise, you'll have 2x the problem when the weather turns cold. Rats breed like crazy. You don't want them getting into your walls and dying, hence poison not a good idea and also because, sick neighborhood pets. A good company should charge a flat fee for trap/removal (not x$ for every couple weeks), then quote for exclusion work -- typically $8 per linear foot of roofline where they will put galvanized drip edge flashing between your soffit and fascia boards and cap the gutters, etc and separate $ for basement exclusion work. There is usually a $2-300 per year bond where they will come back out if they get back in. I don't recommend doing the work yourself unless you like cutting metal and spending time on a 16' ladder, setting & clearing traps with dead critters. Good luck!

I had my basement and attic critter proofed last year. I used Animals B' Gone and they were awesome. I highly recommend them! They are reliable, professional courteous and thorough. As described above they inserted a fine wire mesh between the boards on the soffit all around my house. They came back several times to check the rat traps in my basement. It is expensive but worth it!

We love Evans Pest Control. It's family run. The founder's daughter manages the office, her husband Tim is the one who comes to spray. They are fantastic and are the first to tell us if we don't need something or if there is a way to do it for less (like mosquito spray at our rental house- yards are too close, shady and wooded so it won't do any good but he ordered us something we can use weekly and it solved the problem.) Long story short super honest and easy to get in touch with.
