Does anyone know of a therapist/psychologist/counselor type person in Denton for a freshman friend? Thanks!
Brandi W. replied:
There are actually therapists available on campus. Here is the link but I will see if I can find specific hours too https://www.unthsc.edu/students/center-for-academic-performance/counseling-services/
Any recommendations for Denton-area therapists? Hey y'all, it's been a while since I've been able to see a therapist, and I really need to start going again. Previously...

There are two other clinics on campus that serve the general community. The Counseling & Human Development Center and the Child & Family Resource Clinic. Both are staffed by counselors in their doctoral program or the end of their masters program. Considering the counseling program at UNT is one of the best in the state, you should receive good service. If cost is something you are concerned about, these clinics are both wonderful options because you can apply for their sliding scale which would adjust the cost to match your level of income.

[Shameela Keshavjee](http://therapywithshameela.com/index.html) is awesome. Looks like she's moved her office to Southlake (not exactly Denton area) - still, worth the drive.

If you are a student and have access, the TWU and UNT campuses both have great services and referral information. I've personally used one and a close friend has used the other. Even if you aren't a student they may be able to help with referrals but I'm not certain on this.

I saw [Angela Powell, LPC](http://www.apowellcounseling.com/meet-angela-powell--ma--lpc.html) for a while and she was wonderful. I'd recommend her highly. The only reason I terminated was because I moved out of state.

Becky Hoffmann at Terrell counseling is awesome and they work on a sliding scale. She's very laid back probably in her late 30 s if you have a preference for age or whatnot. Not too terribly hard to get in either unlike the school counseling

Tammy Terrell at Terrell Counseling fits the bill. Lovely person.

The TWU Counseling Center is great as well.

CCD Counseling on Scripture is great. Mark Dittloff is a great therapist and there are good counselors and therapists there as well.

If you have experienced sexual violence you can go to friends of the family for free. They have individual and group counseling. They also have free legal and financial advocacy. And a shelter :) they will certainly help you with any other issues you might be experiencing but they are great working with trauma, domestic violence and sexual assault too. Also-fof has close ties with TWU so many of the therapists and interns there have degrees from there or are working on a degree. They're a very feminist and accepting community and would make it a comfortable atmosphere for anyone seeking services :) Edit-added feminist/LGBTQ info :)

The UNT Counseling Center can be really great and they have a sheet with the therapists and specializations, but if you're continuing to look, check out the family and child clinic on Welch street. They are wonderful, and that is where I went for a semester and a half. Need more help/advice, pm me. I've been seeing therapists, from hypnotherapists to eating disorder specialists, to treatment center therapists, since 2008.
Wanted everyone to know that I am doing well. Thursday I get the staples out of my left knee. Maybe because I just had my right knee done in July and knew what to...
