Dena AndScott Boyd Donna Kapp Gorbutt, a few people have mentioned Dr. Lisa Pierce, however, I am very leery of medical doctors just wanting to medicate problems. Does she work with kiddos without prescribing too? I am not planning to go the pharmaceutical route.

I recommend Dr Denise Wooten on Flower Mound for kids with Aspergers or for parents of kids with Aspergers. Very good. Lisa Pierce is a good psychiatrist for medicine management.

Dr. Lisa Pierce is the very best in this area.

Dr. Lisa Pierce is hands down the best psychiatrist. Dr. Alaina Everitt and Dr. Whitney McGee are with Cook Children's ofc in Lewisville. Whitney works quite a bit with young children. Alaina sees both. However, Alaina is in the Lewisville ofc 1 or 2 days per week and in the Denton ofc other days. Nancy answers the phones and schedules. They are a great office!

We've seen 4 pediatric therapists and I would just like to throw out that some are better at treating certain types of issues, some are better with younger vs adolescent, some offer group therapy, there are so many great therapists out there but some of may boil down to, does my child LIKE the therapist? I would just recommend that you ask a lot of questions because what may work wonderfully for one child may not be a great fit for your child. It can be tricky and I wish you all the best! That said, our favorite is Sherri Golly at Main St Counseling in Grapevine.
Susan R. replied:
Robin Toon the Costello Clinic appears to be a Psychiatry Clinic, and that shouts DRUGS to me. Do they only prescribe? I don't want to go that route.

Denise Ruch Roberts What a great question. Here are some ideas, suggest and questions that you need to think about and ask when searching for a counselor: • Would your child find the therapist friendly? First and foremost, choose someone who you instinctively feel is a good “fit”. You can determine this from their website, the first telephone conversation, or the first consultation. If you sense any kind of unease or apprehension, trust your intuition and start the search again. • What are his or her credentials? Any person you choose should have at least a master’s degree from an accredited school. Further, any one who says they work with children and/or adolescents should have training and education in addition to traditional schooling. Successfully working with children requires more than just a degree, and having tools and skills specific to minors is crucial. Anyone can say that they accept children as clients, but make sure to ask them about their experience, their educational program, and any additional trainings they have. • In my professional opinion, if your child is under the age of twelve, he or she should be seen by a trained Play Therapist. Play Therapy is a highly effective, extensively proven approach for children that allow them to build skills and learn life lessons in their natural state of communication – play. A person most highly trained in Play Therapy would have the acronym RPT (Registered Play Therapist). • A good child therapist is also an ally with the parent, school and other professionals. Ask they if they will be working with you the parents and other family members. If they indicate they don’t have much interaction anyone other than with the child I would keep looking. I hope this information is helpful.

Eren Turner at Youth & Family Counseling in Lewisville. They have a grant from LISD and if you live in the district you can get reduced cost on a sliding scale and I believe even a few free sessions. Eren is a believer and she's an amazing person. Smart, down to earth & a mother herself of two young children. I don't think many people know about this grant. It's a great benefit to our community.
