/u/markbunge and /u/grow4 road are both solid realtors. I think they both will say avoid Jerrys and Hubbell homes. Most of the rest of the builders are pretty decent, some better than others. Lots are expensive nowadays - I know both of those 2 have sold new construction before.

as mentioned, avoid Hubbell homes. it's been a nightmare. the houses look great, but they had serious issues keeping good contractors and now the work is shoddy at best. 4 out our 5 bathroom sinks leaked and many, many other issues.

Try narrowing down the earliest residents using the city directories. They're available by searching for "Des Moines city directory" on archives.org

A long shot, but the local newspaper may have the name of your builder. The Des Moines Register had articles on new home and neighborhood construction in Des Moines back then.
