Can anyone recommend a good gym (chain?) with reasonably cheap membership? I've been looking around and asking a few friends but I can't seem to find any gyms in my area...
UnSocialite replied:
This is the cheapest I've found: http://www.thegymgroup.com/ The soon to be opening Croydon branch might work out for you if you can get to south London in general?
mishagale replied:
Where in South London are you? Southwark council subsidises [a chain of leisure centres](http://www.fusion-lifestyle.com/contracts/London_Borough_of_Southwark) so as a student, if you live in thr borough, you can get a "Leisure Axess" [sic] card for £3, giving you cheap access to the gym. I use the pool, which only costs me £0.60 p a time, I can't find prices for the gym, you might have to ring them up.
lottesometimes replied:
have you tried better.org? they are council run gyms with city wide memberships. you should be able to sign up for less than 20£, but they also do pay as you go.
263kid replied:
Xercise4 less has £10 memberships for students.
merlinho replied:
Pure Gym or Easygym are cheap if there are any near you. No swimming pool etc, but for just gym it's ok.

Whereabouts are you? If Gravesend is a close enough distance for you, there is a new gym right next to the station which is £9.99 a month with a 1 yr contract, or 12.99 a month with no contract. It's really basic, just machines, lockers and a couple showers, but I go there and it's quite nice. It's called NRG Gym, https://twitter.com/NRGGYM

Without a doubt would Highly recommend East Coast Jiu Jitsu. Darragh is an absolute Legend and overall the people are cool ,welcoming and thankfully Ego free (the main reason I signed up). You can find them on Facebook, or the website http://ecjja.com/ Also did I mention theres a 30 day free trial? And no contracts. Can't recommend highly enough, and if you've any questions send me a pm. PS. heading there tonight with a friend if you want to join I can show you around.

Does anyone have any experience with Wild Geese? I want to start training and realistically it's the only gym I could make it too.
Robotobot replied:
There's Jorge Santos BJJ in the city centre on Capel Street. I haven't been, but it's probably the one I'll go to when i get back from Spain.

East Coast Jiu Jitsu with Darragh O Conaill is a really good pure BJJ gym with a large team of dedicatated competitors and a good range of training partners. http://ecjja.com/

Gracie Barra Dundrum!

Jorge santos on capel street, classes 6 days per week 90 euro per month, gracie barra Smithfield, classes 5 days per week 55 euro, phantom mma 3 classes per week 50 euro
BigFang replied:
There was a handy SBG affiliate in the city center but it's gone now. SBG HQ is just across from the Luas stop if you take it towards the Naas road though. I've heard very mixed things about Jorge Santos so I would hesitate to recommend it yet till I know more myself. I didn't know it was in the city center but I've only heard great things about East Coast BJJ.
bjj2468 replied:
Consider Gracie barra Dublin in dundrum too, coach is Chris bowe Ireland's most accomplished bjjer along with darragh. Sound lads and it's quite a bit closer to the city centre.

There must be a McGregor joke in here somewhere... I was actually about to post asking the same question. I will be in Dublin next month to visit family and I want to get some training/open mat time in at a gym
Love_me_figroll replied:
East coast Jiu jitsu. Been in lots of gyms in Dublin and rate this the highest. Easily.
reggie400 replied:
Oh and worth mentioning there's a second east coast gym in bray ran by another legend Chris, just in case you're further out of the way.
does anyone know a cheapish gym in Dublin that doesn't have a load of lads hogging the squat rack all the time?
