I had an older house. I got the ducts cleaned and there was no issue with asbestos tape. When i recently demolished the house to do an infill, I had to get an asbestos inspection. They found asbestos tape around my ducts and I had to pay to have it removed prior to demolition. I think the duct cleaners just didn't see it when they came. Disturbing asbestos can be very damaging to your health, so you may want to consider having it abated/removed.

Friend of mine is a duct cleaner. Anytime they walk into an old house with asbestos they don’t touch it. Not all companies are like that, but most don’t want to put their workers at risk so they will refuse the job and recommend you have it removed before proceeding with the cleaning.

Dude if a professional comes to your house and tells you they can't do a job for "reasons"... maybe take the hint and don't get that job done. Have you given any thought as to why they refused to do the job? Do you think maybe they are trying to protect **your** health? I'm sure you'll find companies to clean your ducts, please don't come here years later though complaining about your cancer diagnoses.
