I can't recommend a professional, but if you're able to DIY here's my recommendation, much of it agrees with the other posters.
* Store your food in high cupboards in tightly closing containers. Avoid poorly packaged food until you get a handle on the situation (ie. don't keep a bag of quick oats in a low cupboard, put it in a plastic container in a high one).
* Put traps along the walls, in closets, under the stove, etc. I recently had a mouse myself, it could easily get the peanut butter off the trap without setting it off. I'd recommend cramming a peanut in the "jaw", that way the mouse has to work to get it off and will set off the trap.
* Steel wool in all nooks and cranny's that could possibly house a mouse (ie. where the pipes go through the walls, around ducts, high baseboards, etc). If it's in a non-visible area seal it in with some mono-foam. Cut the steel wool with crummy scissors, don't attempt to tear it, I got a deep cut attempting that.
* Clean-up after meals/snacks/etc diligently. Leave no food for the mouse, but what's in the trap.
* Look around outside for places mice might live, keep them away from the outside of your house as well, then they shouldn't be around to come in when it gets colder.

Just adopt them as pets.

Traps with peanut butter, cheese is a myth. Sticky traps work as well. Pack food in durable containers the best offense is a good defense. Deny them food and water and they will be driven out or into the traps.
After dealing with mice for the past few winters, I am looking for an exterminator.......anybody know of a reputable / reasonable one. Welcome any suggestions before I...
