Hi does anyone have a vet that they recommend for spay/neuter? I'm specifically looking for a vet who uses laser. Thanks!
Kelly H. replied:
I use Barrington Oaks in Elk River for all of our rescue spay/neuters. 763-441-4000. Not sure if they use a laser. I would suggest you call and get pricing as well.
Amy C. replied:
We were not happy with Barrington Oaks. We go to Anoka - Rum River vet. We have 2 cats and a dog!

Pet Nation in Albertville is good. Animal Wellness Center in Maple Grove def uses laser, hot and cold.

Barrington Oaks is horrible. Only in it for the money! No compassion for animals or their owners.

Try 'all pets veterinary hospital and equine' in Zimmerman. 763.856.8387.
Kelly H. replied:
I actually really like Barrington Oaks Deborah Martin Krona. They are constantly taking in strays and impounds and vetting them and finding placement for them. I know this first hand as I help place a lot of them. I have seen the tears when they cant save one. I think they are amazing.
Paula T. replied:
Best Friends Vet in Albertville-
Kelly H. replied:
That is incorrect. They are the impound for the City and do charge a fine to the owners...which they should. The adoption fees, if charged, cover vetting, spay/neuter, etc. Any rescue charges a fee as well. Covers the same. I have personally helped rehome probably 20 dogs and even more cats and there was no fee. I am sorry you had a bad experience with your shepherd. Losing your dog is horrible. But I can tell you they are not cold heartless people. They work hard. In fact Dr. Dennis saved my beloved Dane. 2 years ago he had a stroke and the ER said to put him down. I was sobbing uncontrollably and about to lose my soul when Dr Dennis called me and said he just got the report faxed over and NOT to do anything. I brought him in the next morning and was told "we are not losing this dog without a belly full of steroids and a helluva fight". So fight we did. He went from not being able to walk at all and having to be carried...to 80% recovery and walking on his own. I got an additional 2 years with him because they said they could. And they did. I will defend them always.

Renae B. replied:
We do routine shots at the shot clinics that the local animal rescues host. No vet fees. We go to Rum River Vet in Anoka, but actually have not needed to go there for a long time now. We usually go to Midwest Animal Rescue and Services since I do dog foster care there, but last year we did the one that Ruff Start Rescue held in Zimmerman. Watch for them in the spring and summer.

Ramsey Animal Hospital is good for vaccines. They only charge for the vaccine, no office fee. Monticello Pet Hospital is a little more spendy on the vaccines but the Dr's there are on point. They don't try to get you to do unessassary tests and know their stuff, very friendly and very good with your pets! Dr. Jacobsen & Dr. Wilcox I use both for different reasons. Depends what mine are going in for.

Noelle L. replied:
We've always gone to All Pets. You can call to get an estimate over the phone so you know up front what your cost might be. Have not been to Zimmvet but I would think they would do the same. I feel All Pets is honest, straight forward and doesn't try to "upsell" services
Megan F. replied:
Oakgrove Animal hospital in Oak grove...love it there!
Jennifer M. replied:
All Pets in Zimmerman.... My preference. Our dog has gone there for 7 years. He also puts on an annual pet clinic. Your annual shots are MUCH cheaper and no office visit charge so you do save on that annual clinic. He holds them at Country Pet Farm in Rogers and one in Zimmerman. Usually in May every year.
Danielle C. replied:
Animal & Exotic Wellness Center by Time Out. Costs are reasonable and Dr Jina uses a mix of both holistic and traditional medicines in her treatments. Many times the natural and holistic remedies have cured what was ailing my dogs without expensive meds which have side effects.
Michelle H. replied:
Animal and Exotic Wellness. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. I was taking them to Melissa Shelton in Howard Lake until she became famous and no longer saw animals. Doc Gina is the only vet (besides Melissa) who I would trust with my fur-babies.

I am one of the admins on Minnesota Dogs in Danger, I am with multiple rescues and I work personally with law enforcement with regards to rescue. I am a huge animal advocate and have my own pets as well. I can tell you from experience I will never go anywhere other than Barrington Oaks Vet Hospital in Elk River. If it is a true over the top issue we will go to the U of M however Barrington is cutting edge and almost always have the training and equipment that the U of M has. They are open 7 days a week (yes all 7) and have some of the best trained staff in the State. They are located next to McDonalds on the frontage road that abuts 169N Their # is 763-441-4000. I always ask for Dr. Dennis G or Dr. Rick. Also around Mid April to May they offer a low cost vaccine clinic (usually by the police station) and you can get cats and dogs vaccinated for an absurdly low price. Police are there to issue the licenses too if needed.
