Sorry - one more thing! Always remember, a good trainer isn't always cheap and cheap training isn't always good. If you're willing to spend the money, Jeff Riccio of Riptide K9 is where I sent my dog and I can attest he's one of the best. I've also heard good things of Justin Mathieu from northern Mass. Jeff has trained with some of the best in the country and Justin has attended the Michael Ellis School of Dog Training out in Cali...if you don't know who Michael Ellis is - he's worth the look up.

Joyce O'Connell with Shepherd's Way is FANTASTIC! (860) 291-8266... She comes right to your house to work with you & the dog in its own environment. Very affordable, best money I have ever spent. Has her do "puppy classes" when I first got my dog... She is 9 now & still remembers everything taught! She is all positive reinforcement (which is super important) & my dog LOVED her!

Does anyone have any experience with the dog training classes at Petsmart? Or possibly have recommendations for another class that won't break the bank?
Mandi H. replied:
I hear good things about Tails U Win in south Windsor. We went through the basic puppy training at petsmart and it was fine for basic stuff and new dog owners.. I don't feel like it really helped much with actual training stuff. I'm looking for an in-home person now to help me with specific issues. Following this to see if any good recommendations!

Not sure if they are still in business but we used Barkbusters/Scot Masamery years ago when our GSD was a baby and he did wonders. It was more training for us as some of our behavior was triggering his bad behavior. Like letting him walk in front of us, eat before us, etc. He summed it up perfectly when he said "German Shepherds want and will try to be the leader but they make AWFUL leaders" and it could not be more true!
