I went a few years ago and stayed in this place right downtown and close to the subway and the subway goes directly from the airport and I could walk everywhere. T($!2 for three days of unlimited transit use)t the hotel is a converted condo building so at that time i got the room free breakfast and lots of choice big huge buffet..healthy options and free beer and wine from 4-6. great thing about the place is essentially they are one bedroom suites and had a full kitchen etc. I was so busy being out all day and just went to the grocery store 2 blocks away and had the option to eat in. it is right downtown http://www.hamptonsuiteschicago.com/

I have yet to find "fancy" vegan in Chicago, it is a lot like Toronto in that sense. Green Zebra is probably the closest I have found and it is veggie, but perhaps others will have more info. There are a few good casual vegan places but when I want som eplace with good vegan options and atmosphere I am still partial to Japonais but it has been around awhile so I probably need to find a newer "hipper" spot. If you need info on hotels lmk, I am there every few months and in fact am there in April for a conference. smile emoticon

You could also ask in the group of vegans in Chicago, they probably know more about their veg-friendly fancy restaurants smile emoticon https://www.facebook.com/VeganChicago , https://www.facebook.com/groups/chicagovegan/

I love Chicago! Chicago Diner (two locations), Native Foods (a few locations) and Karyn's Cooked just to name a few. Be sure to check out the Chicago Architectural Foundation's boat tour. Have a blast!

Dave Ervin. Exactly. Nasty after eating pizza in Chicago for over 50 years. But on the plus side, they have toasted ravioli here. And concretes.

Need suggestions for a friend and her husband driving from LA to Laguna this month with 2 middle school (and theater buff) sons. Must-see...

LA Jolla is way out down near San Diego. Laguna is a bit north of that if I recall. But there are a few things: + Hollywood(the stars on the street, Mann's Chinese, Madame Tousade's wax museum, the standard tour of where the stars live) note this is north of LA and is in the wrong direction + Tuna Canyon Rd in Malibu(this is also north of LA and be prepared that you boys will want to skate it. You may say no) + Loaded Boards/Orangatang Wheels headquarters in Culver City + Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles(sketchy, but you'll get street cred if your boys like Tupac) + LA Collesium(and USC) south of Downtown LA. It gets sketchy, so do this in the daytime only + Compton(I'm kidding) + Bruddah's Hawaiian Food in Gardena(best Hawaiian food in LA) + Manhattan/Redondo Beach (because its a nice beach, bring a volleyball) + The Queen Mary in Long Beach(its a haunted ship) + Knot's Berry Farm + Disneyland in Anaheim + Vans Skate Park in Orange + Huntington Beach(because it's a nice beach, with great breakers) + Laguna Beach(breakers, classic surf joint) + Mission San Juan Capistrano(South of Laguna, but worth the drive) + the boobs at San Onofre(its a nuclear power plant that looks like boobs but sits in front of one of the sickest surf spots in the so cal) + Legoland if you're going down to San Diego, but I hear its only good for younger kids.
