Hi! I'm really working hard to make my flower beds/landscaping all native plants. Where can I purchase some native plants around the Eville area? Thanks!

First Full Weekend in May.

Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden has selection of natives at their plant sale the first weekend in May including three native milkweeds.

Check out www.inpaws.org for lists of native plants recommended for landscaping and list of invasive plants to avoid. Most garden centers will offer natives like rudbeckias and coneflowers, but the tags don't always SAY native. Combs Landscape is making a real effort to offer more native plants. Best of luck and consider coming to our meetings - they are free, open to the public and we try to have good speakers.
Dona B. replied:
Our next official meeting is May 15 at Wesselman Nature Center at 6:30. Aimee Blume will cook up some native edibles. This is a "members only" event because space is so limited. Also, our State Botanist Mike Homoya is speaking about Native Ferns Saturday April 12 (see newer facebook post above) and leading a hike in Wesselman Woods that same morning.

I think I've seen spiderwort regularly at the Master gardener plant sale. Combs probably has it. Hastings Nursery in Mt Vernon often has it. I might be thinning mine in the fall. Iffy on that. I may run into someone thinning theirs. I'll keep you name. If you show up to the meeting in May look for me. There's a whole bunch of us who are quite adept at plant rescues and scavenging for seeds. Pick our brains. I am starting to get more organized about it myself.
