Thank you so much for the add. I'm Amy from the San Francisco area. My friend Marilyn and I just booked flights to Fairbanks for February in hopes of seeing the Aurora...
The Yukon Quest starts in Fairbanks on Feb. 3 rd. A local favorite! Come see the dogs have fun!

For starters Amy, forget the hotel and stay with us! Much cheaper, cleaner, nicer and with a view from every window and deck. Oh, and it's well stocked. http://abnb.me/EVmg/0SJ0 xkPvBG

All of the restaurants mentioned (especially the Lunch Café) plus the new Indian restaurant (Hari Om http://www.newsminer.com/features/sundays/no-indian-cuisine-in-fairbanks-makes-the-perfect-demographic-for/article_e29346 aa-9 b82-11 e7-ada1-c7 a505 b97 ed2.html). Hook up with Ronn & Marketa at The Aurora Chasers (http://www.ronnmurrayphoto.com/NorthernLightsTours/TourOptions/Tours-Cancellation-FAQ) for a tour. Also, I second the "don't stay at a hotel" sentiment. Find an air BnB in the Goldstream Valley--several options out there.

A Taste of Alaska Lodge is a great place to stay if you want to get out of town a little bit. Some things to do - Chena Hot Springs Resort for the out door hot springs, University of Alaska Museum, Silver Gulch in Fox, AK.

Pita place for lunch. Open all winter this year mon-fri only. Really great falafel pitas. HooDoo and Lavelles Taphouse for beer. Lavelles Bistro for wine and fine dining. A few great distilleries to try, especially Ursa Major and their gin mojito. Museum of the North at UAF.

https://www.facebook.com/814863775198557Brazen Bistro B&B is my spot centrally located and run by locals! Check out our website for links to Airbnb or book with us directly. Brazenbistro.com Thai food here is amazing and we have many vegetarian places to recommend. Chena hot springs is always great in winter season. Local events are always in the works during cold winter months like wine tastings at Ravens Landing near our place. I believe dog sled races are ramping up around that time of year too.

Try Running Reindeer Ranch, check with the website or call and ask for Jane Atkinson... You'll enjoy it. !!!
I have family coming for thanksgiving and my place is small, is there any nice clean places in town that's reasonably priced? Like someplace that gives locals discounts?...
I'm new here, is there a place where we can get fresh cut meat or pre seasoned fresh meat. Like a meat market around here?
Stacey K. replied:
Midstate meats out toward North Pole has local beef and pork. I try my best to get cuts from them for https://www.facebook.com/814863775198557 Brazen Bistro. They also process game meat as well for the hunters in the group!!

Try Kodiak Jacks. Lol

There used to be a great local meat place (Home Grown Market) but they closed down after the building they were in was destroyed in a fire. Delta Meat and Sausage sells their own locally (in delta of course) grown cows and pigs. You can call to place your order of anything from a few random cuts to a half (or even a whole!) pig/cow. They usually deliver to Fairbanks once a week.
