Thank you so much for the add. I'm Amy from the San Francisco area. My friend Marilyn and I just booked flights to Fairbanks for February in hopes of seeing the Aurora...
The Yukon Quest starts in Fairbanks on Feb. 3 rd. A local favorite! Come see the dogs have fun!

For starters Amy, forget the hotel and stay with us! Much cheaper, cleaner, nicer and with a view from every window and deck. Oh, and it's well stocked. http://abnb.me/EVmg/0SJ0 xkPvBG

All of the restaurants mentioned (especially the Lunch Café) plus the new Indian restaurant (Hari Om http://www.newsminer.com/features/sundays/no-indian-cuisine-in-fairbanks-makes-the-perfect-demographic-for/article_e29346 aa-9 b82-11 e7-ada1-c7 a505 b97 ed2.html). Hook up with Ronn & Marketa at The Aurora Chasers (http://www.ronnmurrayphoto.com/NorthernLightsTours/TourOptions/Tours-Cancellation-FAQ) for a tour. Also, I second the "don't stay at a hotel" sentiment. Find an air BnB in the Goldstream Valley--several options out there.

Brazenbistro.com Thai food here is amazing and we have many vegetarian places to recommend. Chena hot springs is always great in winter season. Local events are always in the works during cold winter months like wine tastings at Ravens Landing near our place. I believe dog sled races are ramping up around that time of year too.

Try Airbnb. There are plenty of cabins and houses for rent outside of town so out of the light pollution and perfect for viewing the Aurora. We have a one bedroom cabin on airbnb if you are interested. If ours doesn't suite you I reccomend you try another one. Airbnb is a really cool way to experience the local vibe and is usually cheaper than a hotel :) https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/13717433?guests=1&s=41&user_id=37169582&ref_device_id=ba0 efea755880269

Springhill Suites (Marriott) is located downtown and within walking distance to all kinds of shops and restaurants. There's even a ice museum and my favorite, the fudge pot. Right across the street is the visitors center and a walking bridge over the Chena river. Great location and they have a great pool!

Every single place we called along the way accepted our dog, and most were free of charge. A couple that come to mind are Riverland Inn & Suites in Kamloops, BC, Quality Inn & Suites in Grande Prarie, AB, Super 8 in Fort Nelson, BC, Yukon Motel & Restaurant in Teslin, YT, and finally.... Fast Eddy's in Tok, AK. Every single one of these were great stays, and Quality Inn and Super 8 both had SWEET water slides for their indoor pools! We just made the trip back in April. Hope this helps. Good luck! Also, hit up Hell's Gate air tram in BC on the way to Kamloops. It's an awesome touristy stop with spectacular scenery. - Also pet friendly.

Cozy Corner in Haines Jct probably does plus good food/prices, and/or at Mile 1147 Alaska Highway, the - Pine Valley Lodge - Bakery/ Creperie - here on facebook so you can check with them. Pine Valley has a horse corral for visiting horses, so probably allows pets too, plus great French pastries!
