Does anyone know about opening a probate? I know court fees are about $500 but I talked to an attorney that wanted to charge $1300 for his services to open it and $400...

The court has a Self-Help Center that can help you with the forms and the process. (888) 683-0009selfhelp@utcourts.gov There is also an option in Utah in a Utah statute that allows for an estate that is less then $100 k to not have to use the probate process. I don't know if that would help you but we used it for my In-law's estate and saved thousands. There is an Affadavit of Small Estate on the court's website that is a simple one page form. https://www.utcourts.gov/resources/forms/probate/affidavit_personal_property.pdf
