Holly - Perhaps you can tell that to the family of Todd Blair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV6Bq8 xeQrU
Jeremy R. replied:
John Dougall has said he will not issue any administrative subpoenas out of his office. Will any of the candidates for AG make that same promise? At a time when we're throwing around terms like "low information voter" and are trying to save the caucus.. And as closely as people are watching this, it might be a good idea to be able to articulate the issues and concerns facing the citizenry. Just an idea.
Jeremy R. replied:
Holly - The Salt Lake County District Attorney's office already made that determination. And we are not talking about a court case. We are talking about very public comments Rawson has made about such issues. How else is one to judge him but by the things that come out of his mouth? You think federal lands or Obama care are the two issues that we ought to use to judge our next attorney general? Really?
Holly C. replied:
So you are saying that Bret Rawson, for doing his job as a Police attorney, is encouraging the police to MURDER the citizens? You're blaming him for doing his job. Ridiculous. Sim Gill has done plenty to demonize law enforcement, we really don't need more from the next attorney general. Thank God our Governor appreciates the police in this state, and hopefully he isn't blaming a candidate for upholding the Constitutional rights of anyone accused. You know, a simple "I don't like him as a candidate" would suffice, turning this feed into an anti-law enforcement agenda is unnecessary.

Bryce Panzer. One of the area's best attorneys who less political.
Holly C. replied:
Bret Rawson has my vote. He seems to be the most Conservative of the group.....he's a man if Character and Integrity...which is something the office could use right now Sorry, not from Davis county either, just throwing in my 2 cents
Ben H. replied:
Sean D. Reyes for sure.
Michelle S. replied:
Michelle Quist Mumford is very conservative. One of the first times I met her was at her house at a cottage meeting for Senator Mike Lee.
Jeremy R. replied:
I wonder where the candidates are on issues like: 1. Warrantless arrests 2. Administrative Subpoenas 3. Mandatory Minimum sentencing 4. Justice Court Reform 5. The militarization of our police forces 6. Indigent Defense 7. Granting access to all evidence to defenders and investigators 8. DCFS and the guardian ad litem. 9. Civil asset forfeiture I don't know that these issues, and others like them, are inherently "conservative." But they sure as Heck matter to each of us.
Jeremy R. replied:
Michelle - You may want to read this: http://www.cityweekly.net/utah/article-35-18260-swallow-involved-in-attempt-to-bring-ward-to-utah.html May I suggest the person with the least to gain by becoming AG might, in fact, be the absolute best choice?
James H. replied:
Fair enough Michelle and so I like people like Michelle Mumford as a more right leaning candidate that will help to appease the far right that their voice is heard, or Dan McKay. Both are principled individuals that are both clear of this office and scandal as well. I also like Derrick Brown, or Kay McKiff as they are acceptable to the governor and most people in Utah and are also fairly clean of this mess. The Governor needs 3 good choices that will not only appease Conservatives but limit our friends on the opposite side of the isle from being too displeased. Certainly no matter what is done some will be happy and some unhappy. A minority candidate, a reasonable women, an attorney near retirement etc would all be people that the public can trust while we prepare for a special election. I must say that right now I am very pleased with all of the requests for information and feedback the SCC members are asking for. How we conduct ourselves here is very important to the future. This process has not had to be used before and we are setting a good tone. Thanks for the consideration.

Charlie Bradley: "Brent Ward all the way. I have known him for years and is a family friend. He is a man of good character, very congenial disposition, good morals, has a high sense of honor and a deep sense of personal responsibility." Members of Swallow's ward said that about him too.

Carl - The AG's office has a lot of power to influence public policy. If that wasn't the case we wouldn't have civil asset forfeiture in our state. Where the Attorney General is on issues like, oh I don't know, police murdering people... Is paramount to this race. People who care about policy, not people who put on a Gadsden flag and pretend like they care about liberty, but the people who are actually out advocating and working with the legislature, they know how important this race is. And they also are not turning blind eyes. How many people on the State Central Committee even know what the surcharge is? How many of them are asking important questions like that? Utah's attorney general office has fought against additional resources for indigent defense. How important were the rights of the accused to our state and nation founding fathers?

I can not support Brent Ward. Sorry.

Carl - I've known Scott Burns since I was a little baby. That he advocates for minimum mandatory sentencing, in spite of the fact that I personally like him a great deal, should mean that everyone should take a very dispassionate step backward and examine where he is on the issues that will affect every man, woman and child in our state.
