Does anyone know of a veg-friendly family doctor / general practitioner in the Folsom area?

Thanx Sunshine Moore, we dont have ins, so thats fine. I currently drive out to Davis when needed to see Dr Oberholtzer (ped). It would sure be nice to know someone closer who is supportive of our alternative lifestyle. Ive heard of Dr. Allen before. Thanx!
Sunshine M. replied:
May I ask why you don't have insurance???? You can PM me. Have you checked to see if you qualify for Medi-Cal? Have you checked to see if you qualify for subsidies to purchase coverage through CoveredCA.com? Subsidies are available based on income and family size. For example, a family 4 earning up to $94,000/year can qualify for subsidized coverage. But the end of open enrollment was April 15 and you can't buy outside of open enrollment unless you have a "qualifying life event." Medi-Cal enrollment takes place all year long and they will even back-date it 30 days.

There's also Dr. Goli Sahba. She's vegan! http://www.checksutterfirst.org/integrativehealth/providers/?id=44
Sunshine M. replied:
I'm going to see if she sees children too because Dr. Grant is pretty far from us. I just like to have someone available in-network in case I ever get sick or for the free preventive services (well-baby and well-woman visits, etc.).
Bethany D. replied:
Try this, too, Sunshine Moore : http://glayol-sahba-md.healthcoach.integrativenutrition.com/
Sunshine M. replied:
Amy Kobal Rush yeah the whole point of Obamacare is that insurers can: a) no longer deny you for preexisting conditions, and b) cannot charge you more/less based on health status. Since you are self-employed, you are eligible to purchase individual coverage OR small business coverage. You missed the cut-off for individual coverage, but small biz coverage enrollment takes place year-round. AND, there are tax credits for up to 50% of the premium if you earn less than a certain amount. Only problem is that the website for small group coverage doesn't work (yet). So if you are interested, you can contact a broker, a health plan, or you can get more info/quote/FAQ here: http://www.coveredca.com/small-business/
Sunshine M. replied:
oh haha, oops. yeah let us know if you find one Dr. Allen will see us if we ever need him to, but he doesn't take insurance
Bethany D. replied:
Dr. Allen!!!
Bethany D. replied:
I went once to see Christopher Olsen . He's since moved up to el dorado hills but that's not too far since you're already in Folsom . He's open minded, but not specifically veg. But on younger side, so not as 'old school. '
Sunshine M. replied:
Amy Kobal Rush he's in Gold River, doesn't take insurance but we use him for most things and only use our in-network doctor for things that our insurance covers. We have a high-deductible plan with an HSA, so I use my HSA money to go to Dr. Allen. http://www.centerforlivinghealth.com/
Sunshine M. replied:
Dr Grant (Cam and my doc) at Folsom Lake Pediatrics. Super close to you, just make a right at Greenback go past negro bar then go right on greenback at the madison split, and first right on river rock.
Sunshine M. replied:
And even if you pick a cheap plan with a high-deductible, many preventive services are covered by the health plan at 100% as long as you go to an in-network doctor (mammograms, well-baby and well-woman visits, immunizations, colonoscopy, etc.). So like I said, we go to Dr. Allen and pay out of pocket using our HSA money, but we also have an in-network doctor when we want things to be covered. Or like the urgent care costs me 50% of whatever the bill is, so we use that on weekends when we can't reach Dr. Allen.
Sunshine M. replied:
Amy Kobal Rush if you find out that you do NOT qualify for tax credits, then you don't have to go to CoveredCA's "SHOP" (Small Business Health Options Program). You can buy inside or outside the SHOP depending on what plan and price works best for you. If you go outside the SHOP, you can buy from a broker, agent, or directly from a health plan in their small group policies.
Sunshine M. replied:
Tracy Principi the SHOP is open to businesses with one to 50 employees. Self-employed individuals are small businesses, but they also have the choice to purchase in the individual market. For the tax credits, the average wage of employees must be $50,000 or less.

We like our Doc. Dr. Victor Baquero. Although I did just have to use a new gal here in Folsom while Dr. B was on vacation and she was really, really attentive. Her name was Dr. Kimberly Davis Williams, DO916-985-9300 and she may be new to the UC Davis Group in Folsom, since it was my first time meeting her in the 18 years I have been using this office.
