Can anybody recommend a good roofer? (NOT insurance covered) My roof was appraised as "end of life" when I bought the house. My insurance company said it wouldn't be...
Rehd replied:
While I can't recommend one to you, I can recommend to stay far, far, far away from Five Star Roofing company. If you want your roof 85% completed after 10 months, nearly a hundred phone calls, and have a ton of shrapnel / trash left in your yard as well as have a good chunk of your yard killed, you should definitely contact them.

I have owned my own roofing company in Fort Collins and the surrounding areas for 7 years now. Never been the biggest but typically reasonable pricing and also honest (I will give you all the references you need to back that claim up). I have ran into many homeowners in your position and the truth is wehn storms like the ones we had this year come through, you find out real quickly which project/salesman actually know about roofing and pricing. It is easy to just go off insurance numbers, but to put together a real comprehensive cash bid that meets an individual customers needs is different. If you are still looking just let me know and I will be happy to reach out.

I had a good experience with westers roofing, but I went through insurance. Not sure what the experience would be like without.

You could try to call the permitting office in the city and try to get a hold of the inspectors. I've heard they have a good idea of what companies are good and which ones need multiple corrections before passing an inspection. Might be hard to get that information officially though. Maybe there reports though in the public domain. Regardless, ask for multiple references and follow up on them - ask the owners. So many roofers just don't do a good job. Try NextDoor as well.

EcoMark Solar actually does roofing and can cut you a pretty good deal if you do a roof and get solar panels. If you have been interested at all in solar power you ought to give them a shout and see what's up, solid investment.

Ann-Marie Phalen-Hartman: I know Sean from a business connections group I was in in Fort Collins, and I think he is a good man. He will do a good job at good price. My feeling is that he is an honest businessperson, and will do what he can to make sure that you get a square deal. http://www.artisanroofrepair.com/

Who knows a good roofer? I want someone to inspect a really slow leak we have goin' on.
Sandy C. replied:
I used Star Roofing out of Loveland. The owner's nephew oversaw the job and spent a lot of time discussing options with me. When I chose to go for a new roof they were fair, fast, and I believe sold me a quality product. Only glitch: even though they circled the house a few times with a big magnet, I still found nails from the old shingles around for a year. I hear this is par for the course, though.
