Diane Capasso - so let me know if you wanted an adult or ped neph! I got my ped neph referral through a referral - connect those dots! Dr. Kashtan referred me to someone in LA - who then referred me to my ped neph and her team in OC. My adult neph, I asked many various physicians and people that I knew in the area and came back with the same name so many times I decided I must try him out - I am SO glad I did.... I hope he never retires!!!

High bp is a potential symptom of AS. Have they checked her urine for blood or protein? Or your grandson? Hematuria is the very first indication one would find in a patient with Alport Syndrome. They should have their physician check their urine. Any patient with hematuria and certainly those that have developed microalbuminurea and/or proteinurea need to be under the care of a nephrologist and should consider obtaining a clear diagnosis of Alport Syndrome. Also, to clarify a fact here - your husband was born with Alport Syndrome - it is not something that materializes after birth, it is an inherent condition of the kidneys, eyes and ears that progressively worsens with time and can lead to renal failure (usually does for all males and some females), vision loss (correctable with glasses), and hearing loss (usually hearing aids can treat). There are other more rare eye conditions, etc. but this is the basic definition of Alport Syndrome. The formation of the protein chain when he was in the womb of his mother was not done properly and thus he was born with a genetic error classified as AS. I hope this helps. Diane Capasso - I got a response that might be useful: "I'm not sure that Dr. Appel is accepting new patients. Also, there are many big medical centers in NYC. See if you can find out if the family has any sort of preference. For instance there is: NYU Mount Sinai Beth Israel Columbia Just to name the big four. These are located at various points in the city. We have other MDs in the database that are located in NY." Let me know which facility they would prefer and I can request a nephrologist referral for that facility! Love, Joy P.S. It's not really Fort Smith area, but I went to a great chiropractor here in Fayetteville! Millennium Chiropractic. He's also a sports medicine guy so he gives you physical therapy type exercises to do. With army insurance I paid a $26 co-pay and that's it.

Dr. Eddie Floyd in Fort Smith, just off Rogers Ave. near Applebees. Good Christian man and not too shabby a chiropractor either!

Dr. Tracy Atha at Healing Point. She does Acupuncture, also. Really helped me.

Dr. Floyd has been my Chiropractor for more than 20-yrs. I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Ayers.
