My husband and I have very natural views on childbirth and it has taken us a couple care providers to find the right fit. Do a consultation at a few places so that you can be sure you like the one you choose. We did a first appointment with the auburn midwives and we’re not fully comfortable with them. We had opposing views on ultrasound. We did a couple appointments with the Parkview midwives at Parkview North and really liked them, but again because we chose to skip ultrasounds ( I have no health issues and there are no concerns with my pregnancy so we don’t see it as medically necessary) they said we would have to work with the OB’s at Parkview. Then someone recommended Dr. Stroud! We had our first appointment this week and we absolutely love them! They are mother/baby centered, are open to more natural ways and we love that they Will do everything possible to avoid a C-section. They really want to help you achieve the birth that you want. Again, maybe have a consultation at a few places to find the right fit for you. We really wanted to use a birthing center, which is why we checked out auburn midwives, but in the end decided the priority was a care provider that would work with are more natural desires. And just to clarify, Auburn midwives and Parkview midwives were fantastic, we were bummed that it didn’t work out because both places were great, it just wasn’t the fit for us. Any of them could be a good fit for you:-) you’ll find what you’re looking for!

Definitely Dr. Stroud!

If looking for a Doctor as a backup in the event that you will be using a hospital option, I propose Parkview Midwives. For your home birth I suggest Janis Chrissikos Cnm of Earthen Vessels Midwifery. https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=405551442812783&ref=content_filter Also to note check out Fort Wayne Doyle Network and you can do a meet and greet with many doulas at one time.

Rhoda Baughman is a homebirth midwife who has teamed up with strouds practice so all of your needs would be met with the pair. Stroud’s practice alone would be the only for sure respectful OB option. Birthing center option would be Stephanie Vanderhorst at auburn birthing center. Those are the only three of each type I would recommend to guarantee everything you have on your list and to ensure bodily autonomy and respect during that process.

The doctors and midwives at Dr Stroud’s office are awesome!!

I'd suggest the midwives at Auburn OBGYN. The birthing center is right on the campus of DeKalb Hospital, should it be needed. They're phenomenal at guiding you, supporting and encouraging. The Birthing Center and DeKalb are the only options for water birth anywhere around here!
Are there any birthing centers in Fort Wayne or the surrounding areas???? Which do you recommend?

Goshen Birth Center

Auburn Birthing Center for the win!
Whitney D. replied:
Auburn Birth Center is the only one in the area. The facility is great!!! As far as midwifes, Stephanie is a go at your own pace type (frequently running behind but never rushes you for appointments) and Michelle is a bit more to the point and on time-doesn’t ramble and helps you to stay on task as well (for appointments).

I am planning to deliver at the Auburn Birthing Center with Stephanie VanderHorst from Auburn OBGYN. I believe this is the closest birthing center to the Fort Wayne area. There are 3 midwives who attend births there, all from Auburn OBGYN. There's Stephanie, Michelle Hileman, and Britte Nihart. As far as I know, they are all accepting new patients. She can reach them at 927-0035. The Auburn Birthing Center also has a facebook page.

I see Britte Nihart from Auburn OBGYN! She is awesome. Sweet, smart, very hands off... love her. All the women in that office are amazing.

The Auburn Birthing Center is wonderful. All of the Midwives are great. I am a CNM who attends home births but I do not work at the area birth center.

Ashley, depends on the timing, a new birthing center is expected in Fort Wayne through the Midwifery and Fertility Center with Dr. Stroud

My midwife is Stephanie at Auburn Birthing Center. She is amazing and respects all our natural requests. But if you are open to a home birth you can try Agape Birth Services with Rhoda. She is from Fort Wayne and she is completely open to all natural as well.

My midwife Michelle Hileman is also at the Auburn Birthing Center. Although I risked out of the birth center unfortunately, I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful natural birth at the hospital with my midwife still. I have a lot of friends who had wonderful experiences with both Stephanie and Michelle at the birth center!

I had all three of my babies at DeKalb Health with Stephanie as my midwife. One was a waterbirth! Michelle Hileman and Kori Engdahl are the other midwives in the same practice as Stephanie in Auburn. they are all amazing. The ABC is a beautiful birth center. Also, I'm an OB nurse at DeKalb so i can honestly tell you these midwives are kind and passionate about their patients.
Deidre M. replied:
I've had 3 babies at ABC and two were waterbirths. I can't imagine having a baby anywhere else. Michelle Hileman is amazing! The personal care and support you get from the midwives is unlike anything I could describe. I did have insurance but two times it was out of network. But my husband and I said we would rather pay more and be at the center where we are comfortable and get amazing care than in network but stressed and nervous bc of the the venue.
